Being a confrontataional person at Heart, I belive I'D RING HIM UP ON THE TELE. just to ask.
I hope it works out- you were early to contact him, and should be able to get it.
For the rest of us, we apparently need to bottle our enthusiasm a bit until the car is purchased. So if any of my posts means there are issues, I'm very sorry....
Can't help ourselves. Someone puts out an unknown and obscure race car for sale under a grand, we have to investigate.

Damn. I was already emotionally invested in this car.
See if he will meet you. Let him know you have an idea what it might be and that you can fill him in on the history and details, no strings attached.
Once he sees why you are interested and how much you know about the car and how willing and able you are to put it back together, you will be #1 if he does decide to sell.

Especially if he sees that you're not a flipper, and that he's not sitting on a few million dollars worth of Hemi Cuda, just that it may be a thousand or so in its condition and you're willing to pay that (I guess)

This! Definitely worth a try.
I'm guessing he started poking around the internet and stumbled onto this thread, and is either wavering on the "I no wut I got!"/American Pickers "Gold Mine" thing, or maybe (hopefully) just trying to get a bit of intel now that we gave him some idea before selling.
Or maybe he's waiting for Wayne Carini to show up...
Note to self: next time I find something cool and obscure and have no free cash, text info to Pat, and maintain radio silence .
Actually talked to a few people in my office that know cars of this vintage more than I do. Value-wise, it really isnt a goldmine. fun and interesting, yup, make a ton of money via flipping, no.

That's what i was thinking. Rare and cool yes. Flip fodder probably not. I was honestly thinking of emailing wayne carini afterward just to see if he was in tune with someone sitting on parts since he comes up with such oddball bits. I think it was priced pretty fairly considering the condition and that 2 impossibly sourced parts are not there anymore. Doubt anyone has a panhard engine with norton cylinders laying around. Likewise for the nose cone.
Maybe something kept me from getting it for a reason. Maybe the camaro I'm going to see this afternoon is bitchin and the universe wants my money to go to that guy. Cosmic intervention happened with the invisible chevelle deal that dusterbd13 and i went on and i ended up with the WRX steal of the decade since my money didn't go to a drug dealer.

My thought was that it could be a fun restoration project that, when done, could be your way into a bunch of fun vintage racing events.
That's a shame. Something spooked the seller. I expect to see it on eBay, or with a seriously elevated price. Or both.

Did this haven't heard back. The camaro wasn't bitchin' either. I knew nothing about the camaro before arriving. He said he listed it at 3k but got so much response he pulled his ad and was thinking 4800. For a primer black 81 camaro with a truck engine, no hvac, rusty cragars, interior and wiring harness needing 100% replaced, rust hole bigger than a license plate can patch in each footwell, tail panel gone behind bumper and poorly replaced partial left quarter panel.
On a positive note the cheap 17x9.5 corvette wheels i inquired about are still available 30 days later, hopefully i can get those really cheap for challenge use and I'll consider it a successful week on the automotive front.
Apparently someone from oregon is trying to get it, and they were the first to contact him. He says they filled him in on some stuff and that they collect them, which i find amusing given the fact that there were only 10-12 made and 3 of the 4 known I've located are in france. He told me i could still come look
I've had this happen before, but in my case someone that had no intention at all of buying the car contacted the seller to tell him what he had and how much more it was worth, which was not reality. I think it was finally a year before the seller gave up on the crazy pricing and basically I got it for what he was asking originally. People like that really aggravate the hell out of me.
I have an address and am going in morning when i get out of bed. I'm taking cash just in case. The appeal of a wad of fresh hundreds in front of them makes people do things. It literally is almost around the corner.

True that.. Best of luck
Just saw it. Guy is definitely one of us. Really nice. Said the guy from oregon contacted him within 30 minutes and is a collector of Devins and has one of these that he plans to pull molds off of for the bodywork. Guy is supposed to be figuring out shipping and making an offer from there in the 1-2k range.
The car is a complete rebuild with mostly new parts type project. Frame is bad down low, every wheel rim is rotten, everything that should move is frozen, the trans input shaft is very bad. It's been sitting outside for a very long time. The bodywork in the back was spliced at the roll bar tube so the only original fiberglass is the door areas and one seat.
I told him i would still be interested if the oregon guy flaked out, and shared some of the pics and articles you guys found. It sounds like it might be going to a good home, and in the end that's what really matters with something this rare.
Thanks for the update. I was really hoping that either you (or I) could have ended up with this car but, as you said, it sounds like it may be going to the right place. I'm also happy to hear that the seller is a good guy.
Whew... yeah sounds like a massive project and going to a good home. As cool as it would have been to watch you do it, it's probably for the best.
