I saw some chatter about building an Avalon-swapped MR2, but nothing concrete. Is anybody planning on a parking lot build at this year's $2000 Challenge?

This is not to discourage anyone else but just to give my thoughts.  I thought about facilitating one but as we got closer to the date and things are still not where I'd like Covid wise I decided I didn't want to try to bring that many people together.

Those are good points, and so the most likely candidate for a parking lot build would be something incredibly bad and slow but running and basically ready to go. In other words, the "parking lot build" aspect of it will be one person slapping stickers and maybe tires onto whatever someone can find on facebook or craigslist the day before the race.

Still 2 years out from taking the engine out of the tow vehicle to power the challenge car and then back into the tow vehicle.

That may happen if Plan B falls though on the 350z.  Plan C is to buy whatever sub $1000 running vehicle I can and beat the crap outta it.

If anyone in the parking lot is wanting something to do, I'm sure we can find ways to tweak the thunderbird. Honestly no idea what the alignment is, and I have a plan to possibly wrap it, so more hands would be welcome. Of course, I wouldn't be offended if folks want to keep more distance.

I happen to know someone very well that has a bunch of random wrap that they can prove was free.

A generous offer, but this isn't exactly your standard wrap. Trying to keep it a little quiet, but I'll say I'm not doing it until we get there as I don't want a ton of attention on our trip.

I am part of the Avalon/MR2 plan so I have been thinking about this a bit. I have a few more things to figure out before I can commit but that may happen soon.

This has massive potential for flounder so I will just put out what I am comfortable with and see if others are willing to be part of it. I hope to not turn it into a debate of how smart or dumb I am. My background for my thoughts and plan is I work in a busy Physical Therapy clinic in Gainesville that never closed and has done a decent job of managing working during the pandemic. I perform manual therapy on patients all day long so I spend a significant time within a few feet of up to 20 different patients a day. As far as I know we have not had a single incident of patient/employee transmission. We are rabid mask wearers, hand washers, sanitizer users, and cleaners of surfaces and tools. I understand that this is not an infallible plan, but it is one I have been part of since the beginning and I am comfortable with its risk level.

If the parking lot build crew combines frequent sanitizer use, good masks and wearing habits, being outdoors, and possibly a fan to provide airflow I am OK with working with any of you who have made efforts to be safe prior to coming. I would consider a qualifier of having a recent negative Covid test but I cant find a good rapid test locally that isn't just antibody testing. Edit:  Sarkis Covid testing I had antibody testing done today out of curiosity.  $50 and you don't have to leave your car. The test shows whether you have an active infection (>3 days), or have had Covid19 in the past. I was negative.

Thoughts?

I don't see any issues with your plan, though I won't be able to commit seriously to any PLB this year. I'm planning to have plenty of my own problems to focus on haha.
