1950's - 1980's GM Manuals and Ephemeria

My wife's grandfather worked at the Milford Proving Grounds for his whole career. Started as an endurance test driver, ended as an Engineering manager. Cool guy. Whenever a new car would come in they got a stack of manuals with it. When the car left most of the workers pitched them, but he saved most of them convinced they would be valuable to car people some day. Last year he passes away and my wife and I were tasked with cleaning out that part of the attic. Mrs. Deuce has started to put stuff on ebay but I'm listing everything we have cataloged so you guys can have a crack at it first. All of the proceeds are going to the Brighton Area Historical Society, and group her grandma has been active in for 30+ years.

Can you send me a pic of the undated poster of the 83 quality feature? How big is the poster?

The poster is 83 quality features from 1926 cars I think. Maybe a reprint? I don't think they were making nice glossy paper like that in 1926. It's 15x21 unfolded. Sorry it's not from 1983. I'd be fascinated to hear what GM thought their quality features in 1983 were.

Grandpa, true car guy there. Endurance test driver... waaay berkeleyin' cool, we could only dream. What a life he must have had at the proving grounds.

Have you thought of selling them in one or multiple lots to a specialty dealer? Maybe put the cream of the crop out to ebay... but you'll still never know demand. Or set up shop at specialty shows like Carlisle. There's a place for everything... but that is a helluva lotta/ E36 M3load ton of stuff to part out. Geesh, don't envy you there. Research and more research, btdt.

I say that as I have late 40's thru 50's Dodge/ Chrysler literature and dealer training materials bought from a former dealer's estate. Selling brochures on ebay alone was absoberkeleyinglutely monumental, that was a lotta work but I moved a ton of stuff one piece at a time. Was good winter time work tho... and better your Mrs. is on board.

Still have some brochures left and the dealer training materials, almost 150 matching sets of LP records, 16mm filmstrips and 3x5 posters... well, that's how they did it back then. Dread the berkeleying thought of parting that all out.

Doing it like we're doing it is making people happy for now. There was a lot of personal stuff from his days at GM tucked in there along with a ton of internal GM literature from the days when companies helped you with things like how you should vote, company Christmas carols, and all sorts of stuff. Every time I start to look through it I get distracted by cool stuff. It's a good thing Mrs. Deuce is doing all of the real work.

It was exactly what I thought it was. I saw this on a wall in 1987 at the GM plant in STL where my grandpa worked.

Are you asking about two different books, or just this one? Your descriptions are the same. I LOVE the cover art for this period. I can imagine it's you working on your truck. I can flip through and take any other pictures you want. Most of these books came to the proving grounds with the trucks as they were tested so the guys who tested them knew the correct procedures for working on them.
