History: This was a former Midwestern Council SCCA Improved Touring ITC race car which ran in the '90's by a gentleman named Barry Sanders in IL. After he passed away this car was bought from his estate by members of the Western Michigan University "Bronco Motorsports" club where it was mainly a backup car and saw occasional auto-x. I bought it from one of the WMU members who technically owned the car after he graduated. The car hasn't seen much use over the past several years except an occasional auto-x. This is not a show car, it's been banged and bumped, even rolled over, but still has a lot of life left for someone looking to get on track on the cheap.
-1980 VW Rabbit
- 1.6L 8v engine - Mostly stock - per IT rules
- exhaust header
- 4 spd (stock trans at this time)

- Adjustable Camber Plates
- Added rear sway bar
- Newer tokicho shocks - minimal hrs on them
- Newer brake pads
- New clutch
- Race seat and harness
- 4 probe EGT (works sometimes)
- Fuel cell (needs pickup adjustment, or run full. ha)
- SCCA approved roll cage (at least many years ago)

Before sticker removal...
Clear Michigan Title in hand. Have some old logbook/build notebooks from original builder (if I can find them). Random bin of spares. Runs and drives, but could use timing adjustment (cold blooded) and some tinkering. Would take work to make street legal (lights/muffler/blinkers/etc.) Yes I have the rear bumper and front spoiler.

Oh man, that is tempting.
Crud- and you are in Michigan.
A MK1 VW racer is high on my want list.

whereabouts in Michigan are you?
I've got a friend in Grand Rapids who may be interested in it. We'll be talking more this weekend.
I hope to get the car in on a hoist in the next week or so to get some better pics / details.
I'm in Ann Arbor- and have friends that still live in GR.
Man, this went up for sale two months before I could do anything about it!

Because I need my money for the Miata.
Man, not the answer I was looking for.
It would likely be February before I can do anything about it.
Yeah I'm guessing maybe cash is tight for holidays for other potential buyers. I do have a set of 13" Blizzaks, maybe I'll go ice race it this winter. At this rate it'll probably still be here in Feb.
When I have funds in hand I will grave dig this thread to see if it's still available.
A MK1 Rabbit racer is cool enough, but to have local ties to me makes it that much cooler.
I graduated from WMU. Perhaps I should paint it in brown, black, and gold and go ice racing...
FYI, this sold this weekend.
Thanks for the interest.
Thank god- I was afraid of dragging another race car home
Tell the new owner he would be welcome vintage racing with the VSCDA.
Marc in Indy
In reply to 128racecar:
If I knew who the new owner was I would extend an invitation- I crew for a VSCDA MG driver :)
That's what I was going to do with it anyway...
