I bought this wanting to do a 100 % electric challenge car . I cleaned cables added batteries and it ran . I replaced the 20 6 volt batteries with 11 120 volt batteries still in car and good aprox 800.00 . This removed a lot of weight which I think is the only real way to improve this car . interior is too nice to gut even for a Omni . I cant post pictures but can email and text those interested . It is completely stock and I have a owners manual . It does not have a title just bill of sale . Car is located in Sewell nj 08080 . I am looking for 1600.00 . I can help with delivery for fee . Top speed was rated @ 70 mph in 1981 with a range of 70 miles .Call if interested Andrew (609)929-2291
if you put pics on a host site like Photobucket, you can copy and paste them on here.
That sounds like an interesting project
11 x 12 volt batteries, right?

OK that makes it even more interesting.
Questions.
Is it RWD layout?
Is there any gears?

4 speed manual in this one, so it does have gears
They were typically just electric motors adapted to the stock manual, so FWD. So either and early A-465 (related to the later A-525 5-speed) or a VW 020 variant.
With the hatch and engine bay, there is plenty of room for batteries.
Of course nothing says it has to stay FWD ;)
Huh. Sounds like this would be a great start for an electric conversion on any other car you wanted to do as well. Wish I weren't so far away and had the money for it...
yes front wheel I put in 11 12volt batteries to give it a little over the 120 volts . It would lower range but should give it a little more amps hopefully translating into speed . It does do burnouts . I wasn't worried about range since the challenge is 1/4 mile and autocross . I also have a bunch of shelby charger body kit parts to dress it up . I was thinking Dukes of Hazzards orange and calling her the "General Electric"
In reply to decafe:
it is a a 465 4 speed exactly like one on link . All turbo Dodge l body parts are bolt on . Was thinking about doing 5 bolt swap for daytona disk brakes but really not needed .
I got from an estate was in garage no papper work you could get it by switching some parts an a old omni title.I was just going to ue tags from myshelby charger since bin plate is held in by 2 Philip screws

You terrible temptress. Let me think on that a bit.
Quick question:
With the conversion to 12v batteries does the on board charger still function ok to charge them?
Mulling this over, not enough range to get me to work but still something different to tinker with for a bit.
If someone buys this and guarantees me they will bring it to the $2014 challenge, I'd be willing to donate some more performance oriented suspension and brake bits from an omni glh I'm parting. This offer is open to anyone as necessary for budget usage. You pay shipping. If I had the $$ I'd buy it.
Dammit all, stop waffling before I have to trade the Yugo for it and then you'll have to buy it from me in a few months ;)
