So this thing is practically in my backyard (2 towns over) and is so stupid cheap that I may do something rash. Please talk me out of it. Tell me they have crap suspension, etc. so I don't do something stupid here.

That thing has good bones ! Perfect for an engine transplant, they have already removed the old Lump.

Did you buy it ? ? ? ? ?
Nice.
Too bad you are so far away- I've got enough stuff to make a new engine for it.
Alfa engines can be really stout for not a lot of money- and they are light.

Me too. I'm striking out on locating an engine locally but I will employ what I always do with these projects, patience. If that doesn't work, roadtrip to MI!

What is really great about what your car is supposed to be- it's the last of the non-spoiler rear end cars, but the first with EFI.
So if you can find a trashed 82-89 or so car, it's the right engine. If not, it's not the end of the world- SPICA cars can make great power. Check Atlanta.
In terms of what the chassis is- also keep a look out for stainless bumpers. While not a direct bolt on, the older stainless bumpers look a WHOLE lot better than the big, heavy rubber ones.
Other than the engine, what are you plans for the car? Some cheap stock car springs fit, which will really dramatically change the handling- and make it work well with R tires.
Since you are Florida- are you considering a challenge car out of it?

Thanks for the info. I'll probably be picking your brains on this in the future. I possibly have Challenge plans for this. It really depends on the condition when I finally see it. The seller finally responded and now I'm trying to figure out when I can get it. Plus, I probably will have to have someone else drive my truck/trailer as I'm not sure my knee is up for the clutch on that thing yet. Recovering from car crashes sucks balls.
The place that is selling it is a dealer/body shop that I've driven past 100 times and always has nice Alfas, Fiats and other interesting marques out front. Hope this one wasn't too far gone to be a rebuild candidate. We shall see soon. I'll post picts as soon as possible.
