my buddy's dad needed cash, and long story short i have a 1991 caprice to sell.
it's spent its whole life in northeast ohio and west virginia so it's not clean. it has rust behind the rear wheels and in front of the fronts. it has just shy of 250k miles on the untouched original 305 and 700r4. runs pretty good, shifts fine, drives pretty darn nice. interior on the better end of decent, CD player.
gas gauge broken, they've been using the trip odometer and 20mpg as the benchmark for 2 years and it's never left them without gas. has what sounds to be a typical exhaust leak between manifold and head. cat is still on car. marroon inside and out. it's been driven every day forever, hence the miles. i know i could part it out and scrap the rest and make around a grand but i'm trying to find it a good home as a beater, would be a sweet winter car.
bringing it here probably this weekend to get pics.
My girlfriend will most likely kill me for suggesting this, but she needs a cheap and reliable car that will last the next 6-12 months.
Any idea if it has working heat or AC? Heat is probably a dealbreaker, but she can live with no AC. Her beater Cavalier will attest to that.
heat good, AC not sure. i'll ask my buddy. it's still over at his dad's place. i just paid for it and told him to bring it up when he could.
i did drive it in september and it's like driving a big marroon velvet couch down the road.
my buddy told me the air is nice and cold too.
the only real "issue" is you need to watch the trip odometer instead of the gas gauge. it's a turn key and go car, i'll have the car and signed/notarized title here monday or tuesday.
i'd keep it but you know how it goes, can't keep them all.
bump?
i actually brought home today so pics are available.
interior is nice with typical wear(hole in carpet from left foot, worn armrest) from 245k miles of use
heater will cook you
rides nice, no bounce in the ride, slight pull to right
stops very well, no pulsating pedal. pads were done under 2k ago
accelerates smooth
trans works properly, no slips or noises.
exhaust leaks due to missing or broken bolts at rear of at least driver side manifold, typical problem and i'm not fixing it for a $750 car, unless the bolts just fell out and need replaced. this was the case on my old 91 - bolts just fell out. i'll try that but no guarantees.
I totally forgot about this! I'll badger the g/f and get her thoughts on it.

only thing different from pics - car will have steel wheels with classy old guy wire spoke hubcaps. my buddy's dad wants the aluminum ones for his new one and i told him when we get a nice day we'll swap them.
ABS inop, idiot light on. sometimes the brake warning light comes on, sometimes it goes away, i think that is a malfunction in the system. there are no fluid leaks and it stops good. back when i drove it in august/september it was on some and off some too. worst part about BRAKE idiot light being on is they will not e-check it, so you would have to do SOMETHING to make it go away - ie pull the bulb - according to the guy at the testing station. every 91-92 i've had has had the abs light on, and i usually pull the bulb so i don't have to look at it.
i've driven it the last 2 days, i like it but don't need it.
please do not make me deal with CL morons like my buddy is doing currently trying to sell his E250
Girlfriend is interested, now just trying to figure out the logistics of getting out there and back. You wouldn't be near a Greyhound bus station, would you?
EDIT: Bah, never mind Greyhound. It'll be cheaper to just find another driver to come with me.
