Hey all, it's been a long time since I've last posted on GRM (not since the forum switchover). College got in the way. Now I'm off to grad school and my folks are giving me their Impreza, so I need to sell off my long-term project car, a 1992 Mazda "MX-3" RS.

I've done way too much to it (and spent way too much on it, naturally!) and I had it running and driving for the last couple summers but never at a point that I really wanted to take it to school with me.

Anyway, (probably incomplete) mods list: ENGINE: BP swap Wiseco 2mm overbore 11:1 compression pistons (shaved deck and head brings this closer to 11.5:1) exhintake cam swap Fidanza adjustable cam gears Brand new headerback exhaust, 2 1/4 in, Magnaflow header and cat (put it in last summer before I garaged the car) Pacesetter header (hahahahah this thing sucks) New starter and alternator

DRIVETRAIN: SPEC Stage 2 clutch and lightweight aluminum flywheel H&R springs Tokico struts (from a Ford ZX2) 85 Shure urethane motor mounts B&M short shifter G-series transmission

ELECTRONICS: Megasquirt 2/Extra MSD 6A ignition Innovate Motorsports LC-1 wideband w/ gauge Optima Red-Top battery

BODY: Roller brushed Rustoleum sunburst red. Hells yeah! MX-3 GS spoiler Canadian seatbelts, because passive seatbelts are an instrument of the devil and conspired to kill me

BONUS: I've got a set of 17 inch wide TSW Hockenheim rims that I'll toss into the deal to get em out of the garage. Their chrome is ugly as sin but a fresh coat of paint would make them look gorgeous.

Now for the bad: Contractors working on the house drove a nail into one of the tires or something, so it gradually loses air. All of the tires kinda suck anyway so they should be replaced. The RS has rear drum brakes, but I have some of the stuff necessary to convert it to rear discs, which I'll throw into the deal. Also, last summer was the last time I drove the car, so I don't know if it's still tuned up and ready to go, especially on a long highway drive. I drove the car back and forth to work on the highway for a couple summers but traffic was always terrible so I never really maxed the car out, so you'd have to tune the upper regions of the fuel and spark maps on the megasquirt, but that's not terribly hard to do. I just ran out of time. Anyway, if possible you should bring a trailer, as its registration expired a while ago anyway.

I'm asking for $1200, but I'll take the best offer as long as it's not horribly lowballing. I want to sell the car as a piece because I've put too much damn effort into it to yank it apart now, but we'll see who's interested! I NEED to sell this car by the 4th of July weekend, or else I'm going to pull out what I can and salvage the car. I'm leaving for grad school, so if anyone's interested, please hurry!

I'm located in Marblehead, MA, and will be around the house for the next couple weeks if anybody wants to see the car.

Front: front end

Back: back end

Engine bay: engine bay

Megasquirt: it's a jungle in there

Interior: interior

And I'm serious. I need to sell this FAST. All offers will be considered. Really.

Edit: Also, the proceeds from this are going to my latest project, a steam-powered motorcycle build, which is a very GRM-ey project, no? Oh, and apartment rent, I guess. Pshh.

Well this sucks.

I have a burning need for this, but am unable to buy another car until August.

No room in the garage or no money?

Combination of both, really. I live in an apartment, and I just bought a 94 MX3 GS less than two weeks ago. (But that's being cannibalized for the Escort)

OH yeah, those rims are TSW Hockeheims in chrome (former owner of said rims) . Great deal!

Oh boy...

How rusty is it underneath? You know, for someone who isn't 15hrs away

I live on the South Shore, and would be interested in coming to see it. Or maybe better yet I could have my friend in Salem/Georgetown come look at it fo rme. My email is cdirado at mac dot com if you want to converse off of the forum.

Do you think that would work with an 11.5:1 compression ratio? I thought turbos worked best with lower compression...

More compression = faster spool and more efficient, whether it be turbo or n/a.

The only problem is that detonation becomes a major problem. But low pressure, smallish turbo, and race gas would net you a car with a gigantic powerband, and huge amounts of torque. See Dave's EF civic build for reference.

Exactly. The detonation barrier gets smaller... but you will find more power per psi with higher comp. It is just a lot picker about the tune/fuel etc....

Which is fine because it's got a megasquirt. Yay. Too bad the idle code for MSes is still a little weak, although I did help Ken (the MS2/E guy) write the new idle code. Other than the wonky idle, MS is awesome.

When do you think you'll be here? I'll send you a PM with my phone number and try and get this thing ready for you ASAP. My brother's car is stuck in the way apparently with a dead battery and flat tires. Thanks for telling me, bro! :P
