Seller said:
2000 Honda Insight, 5 speed stick, with 165,600 original miles. Cold A/C, radio, power windows, power locks. Body and interior in good shape. Always used synthetic oil, motor in great shape. Has brand new tires all around, good car. Runs and drives, but will need transmission soon. Mechanic special. Averages about 50-52 mpg. Rebuilt title, due to previous small accident before my ownership. Asking price is $1800 OBO. If you have any questions, please call me at 352-454-4372.
How hard is it to swap the transmission out in these? It seems like an awesome project. I wish I had $1800

Be almost worth more to part it out than restore. That battery is probably on it's last legs if it's never been swapped. Those Insight people are kinda crazy when it comes to prices on used parts. I should know.. I own one.
But the trans swap wouldn't be hard at all, just like a regular car.

Probably has bad syncros, super common, especially second gear due to a huge 1-2 and 2-3 split without enough syncros on second. Double clutch it and you can still drive it for a LONG time. I loved mine, I'd like to get one again. Fun car to drive. At that price you will not lose a penny.

Would some sort of Civic transmission swap work? Would it be a simple bolt in?
What's the life of the batteries?

In mass, that is about to be emissions exempt, to swap a boosted k series in there would make the greatest sleeper of all time.

Factory warranty is 10 years or 150k miles. The OEM refurbished warranty replacements are only warrantied for 3 years though. I would say 10 years though on a new aftermarket battery sounds right, longer if you build a grid charger to charge them at home.
I really like these and this is relatively close. Having dealt with a rebuilt car before I would really want to get it on a frame rack "just" to be sure the frame isn't tweaked.
I wish I knew more about Hondas I'd love to swap a K24 in
