2001 TDi Beetle 5-spd
I have had this car for approximately 6mo and intended on fixing it up to daily. I have recently decided it is too far gone to be worth my time. The interior had some water damage from sunroof. I have the seats still but they are rough and the carpet was thrown out. Also some interior trim was removed and I have it, some pieces I do not have. The car runs and drives but not without several issues. Tires are worn and would not be suitable for road use. I replaced the shifter cable ends but after several adjustments cannot get 3-4 gears to engage, all others work fine. I recieved the car in pieces missing a turbo and upper intercooler pipe. I replaced the turbo with a used unit and rigged up an intercooler pipe and eliminated egr and shutoff valve. The car came with 520 nozzles and I swapped those out for stock but the larger nozzles are included with the sale. The straw that broke the camels back is a chunk of teeth stripped off the ring gear for flywheel yesterday and the starter cannot engage the flywheel. If you rotate the engine a bit by hand or push the car in gear you can move the flywheel and still start it. I do not have vagcom so cannot set the injection timing, it smokes at startup and I played with the injection pump gear a bit and got it to stop smoking but now have hard start. It starts fine with a squirt of ether but before I altered the timing it started on its own. I have replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the in tank pickup in an effort to help out the starting. The car has 150k miles and doesnt leak a drop of any fluid anywhere. Has a check engine light for glow plug harness and emission control. No glow plug harness and the egr is deleted. It is also straight piped. I have driven the car around my neighborhood a few miles and from the front to rear of my yard as a mobile toolbox for months. It rolls good on the road. Also worth noting the headlights and taillights are crap and the lower valance/grille on the fron bumper is missing. No radio installed and Air condition blows warm. Almost forgot when I changed the injectors I did a compression test and it was perfect, 420-440-420-420.
