Went to see this car yesterday and declined to buy it, but MTX Foresters are not exactly thick on the ground so I thought I'd post it here. Seller seemed like a decent guy.
Car has 120k on it and looks like it. Recent timing belt and front axles. Clutch and trans felt good, and the hill holder worked great. He bought it in NY last winter but I didn't see or smell any evidence it had been wet. Hooked up my OBDII scanner and detected no issues and it was ready for emissions inspection.
Aftermarket head unit that seems functional.
I did not jack it up but the engine seems dry underneath and it is not crusty anywhere I could see. All 4 LCAs looked cleaner than my daughter's 2002 Impreza which spent its whole live in the DC/MD area.
Not currently tagged but it has a NY inspection sticker on it that expires this month. A couple issues I noted:
Looks like it probably got backed into or lightly rear-ended a truck, though that has been fixed. Hood is a used XT piece while the car is an X. Upper radiator brace is wrinkly, but it has a new radiator and condensor. Repair was done in winter so the new condensor was never hooked up and recharged.
Turn signals don't work. No idea why.
Currently showing air bag code 62, which is apparently common in this car and relates to a fault in the passenger side seatbelt sensor wiring under the seat.
It had a kicker box in the back and there is a cut off bit of audio wiring harness sticking out into the cargo area.
I'll give him the $1 asking price.

Seriously, is this a $2013 or less car? No price shown, you saw it and still don't mention a price...???
Bryce
Yeah, highly doubt this is sub-$2013.

Sorry, guys, sheesh. I didn't make him an offer; I don't know what he'd take. Just figured I'd throw it up here since this crowd seems to like manual-trans wagons.
I just flagged the original post to ask for removal.

Well, that seems silly. You should have offered him a dollar to see if he was serious or not, just in case! Really, if he wants $8000 for it instead of $1, that makes a world of difference. In my experience, people "testing the waters" are rarely actually interested in selling the car for a reasonable amount.

Evidence of front and rear accident damage on an absolutely base model Forester?
Might be a $2013 car.

yeah... let's sell a car with non-functioning A/C in the middle of a heat wave... I might be interested if the car was more or less functional - even if over the $2013 limit, but I don't have time for any more projects.
Hmm, I guess it's just me?
The way I read the description of this car, it "could" have been involved in 1 or 2 not too major accidents (perhaps it was the middle car in a 3 car pileup?) and has been repaired in a manner that suggests (at least to me) that the insurance company was not involved or could not, for some reason get involved (someone besides the registered owner was driving at the time?).
My sister recently bought a used Outback. 2 of my other sisters own Outbacks. I tried to get the sister who recently bought hers to consider a Forester...as it would have been cheaper than an Outback. She wouldn't even consider a Forester as she thinks they look too agricultural.
It's my experience that ANY Subaru with a manual transmission is a rare find....but unless it's selling for approximately $2000, isn't supposed to be posted somewhere else on here?

I don't think it's been hit in the rear, just the front. Regardless, sorry for posting.
Don't apologize for posting, I think the naysayers are whining.
