Yeah, I posted it a week ago with the thought of maybe selling it.
Well, the cheap engine I swapped in decided to self-destruct right be for the weekend.
It will run long enough to put on a trailer, but thats about it.
New snow tires (fronts) last fall and good all-seasons on rear.
Needs out of my driveway in the next month or so.

didn't know they offered the manual that year. They got rid of a lot of the cladding and made that car look nicer too.
Any idea what's up with the engine? I'm assuming no major ventilation?
I didnt know they made 5-speed grand ams, at all. I wish you were closer. But SMWBO is glad you're not.
No major ventilation, but running extremely rough and almost no power.
I can start it and move it around. But, pretty much have to floor it to move.
We are replacing the wife's minivan and I might start driving the old.
On the fence about finding another cheap engine and tossing it in. But not sure if I really want to.
It is a nice little ride and got 27mpg running 75ish on the freeway.
Running rough and no power...
On an Ecotec I would first look at replacing the coil pack and ignition control module.

The black is the coil. The silver is the ignition control module.
My Saturn Vue has the same engine. The first time it happened to me, it was running rough, erratic and seemed low on power as if it was not running on all cylinders. I swapped in a JY version and all was better. It happened again recently and sure enough, swap in another used version and good to go.
I think I paid $40 for the combined unit, like pictured. I was not sure which part was bad, I just swapped in both.
I just looked. The first one I put in was at 186k miles (I bought it with 140k) the second was at 225k.
Here is some that I have written on the topic in the past:

I had a similar issue with a cavalier with the 2.2 - Ignition module fixed it, just like John said. At first, it was running on 3 cylinders, the miss had the whole thing shaking. About 2 minutes later it lost another, and it would barely move. PITA location on the cavalier, my wrists have never been the same...
