OK This is really tempting. What does one look for/at doing a pre-buy on Miatae? Looks like rust on rear quarter from the single picture.

The Answer

Have a Mazda Miata red in color great running car new clutch master and slave cylinders also 2 new back tires looking to buy something newer and bigger runs and drives great heat works great along with the AC

Top could be replaced and needs a driver side window crank

Have changed oil faithfully and kept up with the car as much as possible drive it everyday and never left me stranded

Pretty crappy pic, but yeah, that's rust you see. Patch-panels are available. But from personal experience, once the rot starts travelling UP the wheel arch, it probably into structural areas of the rockers. YMMV on this, but the quarters on my '92 actually split, following the contour of the arch.

Beyond the rust, it's a Miata. Clutch slaves can be troublesome, but easily rectified. Also, even though it's a long-nose crank, check for a "death-wobble" at the crank pulley. Long-nose engines can have the same failure as the short-nose engines, if re-assembled poorly after a t-belt job.

Other than that, nothing special that needs to be looked at differently than any other $1000, 23 year-old car.

Oh, plug wires. Early Miatas tend to bake wires every 30k miles or so.

Man, gone already! Went back to get the number and it was deleted.

Thanks for the quick reply, though!
