Yes. It's pretty sad. I did text the owner and asked if it was a "legit" M3 and not a clone. He said it was real. So much car in its heyday.
From the way you guys are talking about it I was expecting it to be way worse. Maybe my standards been brought low...

x2. i wonder how it would buff out. always wanted an e36 m3, but i feel like at this point i don't need to find out just what kind of can of worms a neglected 240k mile one feels like. plus auto, yuck.
Oh I'm not saying I wouldn't buy it. I would totally take an $800 chance on that, and flog it until it's good and dead. i just don't think that would take very long.
Yeah, I expected MUCH worse. I've seen people asking more than that for regular E36's in about the same condition.

The body is better than my $1500 M3, so I was thinking about buying it and swapping my powertrain and seats into it. My girls would love a yellow car. But I don't have time or space to pull it off right now. :-(
With the cross-over between all the other e36 models, my experience has been that most parts are cheap and plentiful(unless it's stamped M3 or M3 only). I wouldn't hesitate to gamble on that car if it was in my neck of the woods.

BMW made a LOT of E36 auto M3's. I won't say half, but a damn good percentage. Probably one reason for the car's sales popularity.
Even with an auto, $800 for an M3 would be hard to pass up. Hell, I'm sure I could sell the engine to a buddy of mine for that much and do something else with the rest.
edit: And I see it's sold. At the least the seller was cool enough to leave the ad up and just mark it SOLD so we all can dream about it for a bit longer...
