I am going superbike racing, so it's time to clear out some of the inventory...this is a GRM ONLY deal, I have it listed for $3k+ everywhere else...
Selling my CLEAN 1986 Subaru Brat GL 4WD. I bought it with a 2001 EJ22 partially installed, that went into a different car and now it has a carburated EA82 engine. Dual-range 4-speed 4WD trans. Motor mileage ~80k, rest of car unknown (odometer doesn't work). Originally from Florida, I bought it from a guy in Ohio, who was the only person ever to let it see snow (1 winter). VERY little rust as a result, probably the cleanest Gen 2 in WI. New clutch when we put the EA82 in, shifts through all gears fine, synchros are a little crunchy but nothing crazy. Trans leaves a few drops of gear oil on the ground after a long drive, 4WD works well in high and low range. Exhaust is a bit cobbled together but gets the job done. Interior is pretty nice, dash has a few cracks, driver's seat has a few rips, otherwise really nice. T-tops in great shape; no leaks! Stereo just quit working one day, no idea why. Speedometer cable recently broke, will have that fixed ASAP. Clean title in my name.
This would be a great candidate for a project, or just drive it like it is and enjoy it. There is so little rust on it, it would take very little work to seal it up and preserve it. I nave never seen another Brat this clean on the road in WI. $2011 FIRM. I would keep it if I had the room. I may consider trades (plus cash) for a sportbike, E30/E36 BMW, A1 VW GTI, Swift GT/i, any quattro Audi, other interesting things with motors, electronics, etc.

Why did I click on this? Selling one of two Imprezas totally warrants picking this up, right? Right?
E36 M3. That's on my list of must own cars.

No A/C, it did have it from the factory but I believe the A/C departed with the long-gone original engine. I have almost everything to put A/C on it, I'll throw it in with the sale if someone wants it.
1985 was the last year the seats were offered. Luckily, if you find a set, they'll bolt right in. Then again, they were technically never supposed to be there in the first place
I would really like to see this go to someone who appreciates it. Hell, if you have ANYTHING to put forward as a partial trade, I'll think about it. I'm skeptical of the craigslist/eBay market, I worry it would end up as another rusty crapheap because someone beat the snot out of it.]

Of course it does! Milwaukee isn't far at all
Ummm....damn. I've wanted one of those since I was like...6.
Let's talk. PM sent.
Replied. I should add that I have tons and tons of spare parts for these - not necessarily looking to get rid of it all (I still DD an old wagon), but would be a great opportunity for you to grab some hard-to-find parts!

GRM Rally Project Subaru Brat! Inter-office rivalry at it's best!

I don't think there's a person on this board that hasn't wanted a Brat at one time or another.
Bump for a nice car that I'm glad I don't have money for right now.

Is it still available Slick? I had a '85 back in HS lol. It was awesome.
Does this one have a 2 barrel carb?
Still available. Has the l33t 2-barrel Hitachi carb, yes. Weber conversions are pretty popular these days, real easy and cheap, and you get to do away with 90% of the ridiculous vacuum system the stock carb utilizes. I would do that if I was keeping it.
Seriously thinking about this. PM sent.
First off, how reliable is it? I've never had a Subaru and would need to drive it back to Western PA if I bought it.
Second. What kind of spares come with it? Really interested in putting the A/C back in it for summer.
Third. Speedometer will be working but odometer is broken? Any thoughts on this?
Fourth. I have a '96 Honda Civic DX sedan to get rid of. Automatic 196k miles. New PA inspection, new remanned alternator, runs good, A/C has a leak but worked when I put a charge in it. Some rust, but passable basic transportation. Interested in a swap?
PM replied. Bump! About to head to the shop to clean it up and take some new pics.
I just found out that I can hitch a ride with a friend that's going to Chicago next week. Getting very interested at this point.
Replied again. Looks like a possible sale pending to Jimbob!
Going to see the car on 7/2 with cash in hand. Most likely going home with a new toy and some spares.
Damn. If Jimbob is uncertain about this, and/or if you'd take a Honda Pacific Coast in trade, let me know. I'm in Michigan and very willing to travel with cash.
slick you need to post more pics... just because the brat is so awesome :)...

I'm definitely hitching a ride with a friend who is going from Pittsburgh to Chicago over the weekend of 4th and talked her into a side trip to check it out. From the pics and emails we've exchanged it looks really good and I should be driving it home on Monday. The thought of driving a new to me, 25 year old car 550 miles sounds like a perfect adventure.
Good on ya then Jimbob - hope all works out for you.
I think it will. SlickDizzy seems like a real stand up guy and I'm confident that the Brat will be exactly what he says it is.
There is a pretty good gallery HERE if everyone really wants to see more pics.

Nice pics. Will the three scooters be in the back when I come to get the Brat?
I think just about any type of Subaru seat will bolt right in.
This is a seriously cool machine and I drove mine for about 6 years before the Michigan winter finally did it in.
Just remove those dual sunroofs and enjoy.
