Selling my kids autocross kart. They came in 1st and 2nd in the 2011 Steel Cities SCCA region championship with this kart as is.
This is a complete setup, ready to go. Has a can muffler on it for Formula Jr., but comes with 2 or 3 pipes, and enough extra parts to build another complete engine. Also comes with a starter and other extra parts also, like sprockets, chains, clutch parts, gauges, etc...
Runs strong, needs nothing. Located in Northeast Ohio. Asking $1100.

how old would a kid be to run something like this?

In reply to pete240z:

Are you talking about ability or rules? Ability would obviously vary. My kids got their first kart when they were 6. If we had had it, they could have handled this one when they were 8. But we didn't get into it until I found out about the Formula Jr. program. At that point they were 14, and they are 17 now. There is also a Formula Jr. B. I think you can use the same kart, but would need a lower powered engine. You'll have to look at the SCCA rules for the ages, as I can't really remember. WIth a can muffler, this engine puts out ~9-10hp at about 13k rpm. With an expansion chamber pipe the hp jumps up to ~17-19. But the kids have to run the can muffler. I can tell you that they had a ton of fun. There were times where there were only a couple cars that were faster than them.

Thanks. Wanna buy it?

A lot of people put body kits on them, but I find that just makes them harder to work on. I do have a body kit that goes with it, however.

Do they make seats for them that an adult could sit in? I don't have kids, but I want to have karting fun...

Yes, and I have a couple. Depending on your size, you may fit in the seat that is on it, as it is a small adult seat.

BTW, there is a kart club that runs at Barberton Speedway. This kart would be legal for that club.

is this kart too small for a 6ft 3in 210lb-er like myself to race with?

No, not at all. You just need to position the seat to fit.

In reply to CarKid1989:

Top speed depends on gearing, and cost to own depends on what you use it for an how often. With a pipe and the right gearing, it will top 70mph on most kart tracks. I have a variety of sprocket ratios to choose from.
For autocrossing, your main cost is going to be the autocrosses themselves. I don't think I put any money into the kart this past year other than fuel, oil and clutch oil. If you race it, then the costs go up.

If they let karts (and kids) autox in ontario I would be on my way to Ohio. Such a great way to make autox a family activity.

What do you mean? They're still available, and there are racing classes for them. American Powersports carries everything, amongst others.

If only you weren't in Ohio and I had an extra grand.

My kids would have a blast on that.

Good luck with the sale.

Do you have any bodywork? Our local tracks require the bodywork to run.

In reply to nocones:

Really? Why do they require it? I do have some body work, but it is off another kart. It may take some adapting. I never tried to put it on because it wasn't required to autocross, it's easier to work on without it, and my boys and I kind of liked the old school look of it.

It's just their rules. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth me picking up. I want a kart. Sounds like this one is well sorted and complete. I have the drive to pick it up to consider and the cost to convert it to adult specs, and my local tracks require bodywork...
