I'll be the first to give the ubiquitous response of: "I'm glad it's too far away for temptation cause I don't have money/room."
That does look like a good deal for a fun project.

Why would they be worth less?
I thought they had a slightly larger motor with more power?
No difference in the motor, slightly longer, some were slightly wider, all the supers had macstrut front suspensions.
Spare tire mounred flat, strut suspension and disk brakes. They were longer. Had a more awkward front lid a curved windshield starting in 73 and a different dash. Its the outside appearance that's less pleasing and less beetle that makes them less valuable I think.

Why should this concern me? I've also owned three standard Beetles.
I owned two older beetles. They could use some improving. I'd get these if they weren't so damned far away.

There are a couple small holes in the pan, but the heater channels are solid.
It's a good base for a German Look Bug. Since it's a 1974, Porsche 944 front spindles bolt on without too much work.

Might be able to work out a deal on shipping. I'm always looking for an excuse to take a roadtrip.
A Super Beetle can be a whole lot of fun and a really good ride if you embrace what it actually is.
I've owned five Beetles, three buses, six Karmann Ghias, five dune buggies, and one sandrail. I'll take my '74 Super over all of them.
The Super was a better car all around which got a bad reputation because purists didn't want their beetle changed. If you want the best car for road and track go for a super. If you want to feel like you are driving 1940s suspension technology go for a standard.

And I'll build a super that will smoke it in a straight line or in the twisties for half the price ;)

Well, explain the straight line thing as it'd be the same engine in a lighter car. I've owned racing 356s and 944s so I'm not sure why you're so confident. But anyway, if you're after pure performance you're missing the whole idea of the bug.
