Hi folks. So as some may know I recently acquired a 1987 535is that I hoped to bring back from the brink, but I think this car may be more of a parts car for someone. It has a lot of great parts, and it does run and drive (I registered it), but it needs pretty much everything to get it road worthy and with a new job that requires far trips out to PA once a week, I'm starting to shop for a newer E46 that's a bit more reliable.

If you were inclined to get it up to snuff, it needs brakes, exhaust, suspension, and a number of cosmetic things. The paint is heavily oxidized but I don't see any rust. The car is on style 9 rims from an 850 and are in great shape, the tires are mismatched dry rotted disasters. Like I said, it'll start right up and drive, but um, probably not the safest till things are repaired. I don't have the time now that I have this job, and need a slightly newer, less taken apart BMW, to commute in.

The interior is full power sports seats which all work but will need reupholstering. M tech 1 steering wheel, windows all work except for 1, sunroof still works, carpet is actually decent. Dash is cracked. No radio. All gauges work, and cluster is new, per last owners, about 7,500 miles ago.

If interested, I can email photos and ill try to get a few up here. Again, this is more of a parts car. If you want to try to restore it, up to you. If you want to do that, the new NY title should arrive in a few weeks and I can send it out to you. Otherwise, if you're taking this as a parts car, then you probably don't care.

Here is the build thread so you can see what you're dealing with:

How many miles on it and where are you located (Redhook?)

Yes, in red hook Brooklyn. Car has about 163k miles or so. Odometer stopped around 150-something thousand miles and a dealer replaced the odometer with a new unit, which has about 7,500 on it. The stickered the car on its door jam to note the replacement. Honestly it could be a great car, but I don't have the time or money with my new job and my other half'd new job. Doing the grown up thing and taking a loan out on a really nice pre-owned e46 330xi

So this thing is sitting in a lot in Paterson NJ where I picked up my new car. At this point, the car is free (or perhaps a nominal donation towards the iphone input this new car needs for my commute) as long as 1) you meet me there to pick it up 2) can take the car and wait while the new title comes in from NY (registered a week ago before I decided to sell, will probably take like 8 weeks unless I file a lost title application. I'd rather just wait).

So yeah, I'd rather this go to someone that wants to put the work into it. These guys will scrap it im sure or try to unload it to some poor individual. Let me know and I can give you the laundry list of work it needs. It does run and drive, though I wouldn't very far till you check it out. Also the interior is a little apart (door cards, glove box, etc) but all parts are in the trunk. I also have a newer shift console (it's auto) and lower console to go with it if the party is interested.

For real. I only left it there because i couldn't get that and my new car back to BK. Would need to be towed. I wouldn't trust it to go far. Though I did drive her over from Brooklyn, right over the GW bridge on al of her mismatched, dry rotted tire goodness.

We're willing to come (from PA) and pick it up, preferably tomorrow. We have a tow dolly.

Please call me ASAP so I can finalize arrangements. PM coming with phone number.

Greg I couldn't do tomorrow, I'm actually out of town at the moment. Let me figure out some days that would work for me.

How long are they going to let you keep the '87 at that lot?

Till I give them the title and just give them the car or they tell me to come get it. They expect a few weeks at least
