I'm to far away but I've been thinking about a tire trailer. I have a question, wouldn't the tool box be better in front assuming it out weighs the tires? Seems like it would drop on the rear once you took it off the car.

Never been an issue, even without wheels on the rack. It's not like I put several hundred pounds of stuff in the box...

Actually looking at the picture closer it appears that the tool box is closer to the axle center line so the smaller weight up front would be multiplied by the longer lever. Thanks I'll add that to my list of thoughts. GLWS

In practice the differences are so minor as to be unimportant.

This is essentially the rig I built but I stack tires vertically so I can get more than four. Way more than four.

A rear mounted toolbox means you can access it easily even with the trailer connected to the car.
