I have an ongoing project and just sold a car and a trailer, i.e. cash in hand. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/evil-18.png)
A friend called me about a car, you gotta see this. Well, I don't need anything but what the heck. I call. Nope, sorry I sold it, but I do have this other car available.....
Rats.
One owner (the current one) 1968 Cadillac Convertable. White top, white (rare) interior, light yellow exterior. A few paint bubbles here and there, the rear body mounts are funky because he pulled a trailer, but he's asking $2000. for this and a spare 472 engine-tranny, boxes of chatchkas, trim and what nots. You can drive it away but you can't stop, he blew a rear wheel cylinder.
If he breaks up the set, he'd take $300 for the 472 and tranny.
As much as I hate to do it, there may be a rat rod in my future.
You saw the picture of the inside of my garage right?
Dan
Zero body work.
Get it mechanically sound, bag it, and throw some deep dish 22's on it.
I would love a huge family cruiser like that
The top is ripped and I don't live in Georgia. What's a new top go for?

We're talking about different looks.
What look?
I'm thinking about buying the 472 & tranny for $300 just because.
It's two hours away but I've done dumber. What would I put this in? No T-Buckets! What's out there that will highlight the engine but be almost kinda practical?
OK, practical was a bad word but you get it.

Mid 70's Nova, or a Chevette

I drove a 87 TBird powered by a 500ci Caddy into the 12's once. I'd recommend throwing it into something with no hood though. Maybe a LoCost?
In reply to Javelin:
Dear lord! With that much torque can you say wheel spin like a mofo?

It had 10.5" ET Streets and a good drag car suspension. It had nose-up like a mofo!
Aren't all caddy blocks prior to the aluminum the same dimensions? Toss the engine in the newest, smallest, RWD Caddy you can find prior to 4.1 series engines.

I was thinking 472 powered one of these:

A friend of mine had a 472 in his old daily driver S10. It was a tight squeeze to say the least. He had an electric fan on front of the radiator instead of the clutch fan (and I think the rad was moved forward), and even then the water pump only cleared the radiator by about a half an inch. I think he had to do some trickery with the steering linkage, and one of the upper control arms would hit the exhaust manifold if you hit a bump too hard.
I told a guy at work about it, he's driving down tomorrow! I asked if he's sell me the spare engine as a finder's fee.
