Is that a true statement that only 764 were sold in the US?
It seems that I have seen all 764 over the years. I know they are not plentiful but my guess is more plentiful than that.

There may have just been 764 in 1982. I've had a couple of them myself, but can't remember what years now lol

The gas can in that one picture makes it look like he was about to set it on fire but at the last minute instead decided to put in on Craigslist.

I almost wonder if it wouldn't create such an unstable environment that you'd run into a situation where it came full circle and was somehow more reliable than a Previa, a P71, and an LS400 combined.
