I remember seeing the price to rebuild was about $1200 all in from a 3rd party, you pull, ship and reinstall.

I don't think they are too hard to pull and replace. Dealer did mine, dropped it off at 8am, they had it done and driving by lunch.

The '06 model year is a pretty good one. By many of the stats, it's significnatly better than an '04 or '05 in terms of reliability. After replacing the engine, it might be a decent car for quite a while.

just a heads up, my RX8 doesn't have a sunroof, and i think my seats (it's an R3) sit a bit lower than the normal ones. With a helmet on, my head is -maybe- an inch from the headliner, and i'm only 5'11".
