They seemed to be most popular in late 80's to early 90's european luxury type cars. I'm looking for the style with a plate with a ball that usually bolted to the tunnel, an arm about 12" long, and another plate with a ball on it that the cell phone mount fastened to. I'm sure someone here has an E30, 944, or Audi Quattro that they've parted or turned into a race car that had one in it, right? I'd like to have four of them. Oh, and I'm cheap, so don't expect to get a lot of money out of it!

a RAM mount?
I had to look it up to find out what that was, but no, I don't think so. Here's a super-crappy picture of one that I just found online, not that you can actually see much of it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/k0re/4158482357/
that does look a lot like this...with a bracket for the phone.
I know exactly what you're talking about, and I have used those in the past for various projects. They're great and a usually more adjustable than the RAM mount; they're very similar to it but without the long center section. I doubt I have any unused ones on hand right now but will check. All of them I had, I got out of cars I owned, so maybe the junk yard would yield up a few. I checked the usual suspects of electronics suppliers and didn't see any yet. Good luck, I'll let you know if I come up with any.
I've thrown dozens of those away
I used to do all the used car reconditioning at my shop, removing old car phone stuff was very common a decade ago.

Exactly. Ten years ago you could go to the u-pull yard and look into just about any old Audi and there would be one in it. I'm pretty sure I have one in my garage somewhere, but even if I find it I need at least two more.

Hey, I pulled a bunch of phone hardware out of my Audi when I got it. And for some reason I chucked it in the attic. Let me look and see what I've got.

Sweet! It seems like Audi's almost always had the ones I'm thinking of!

Sorry ... dug the pieces out yesterday and no mounting arm. Phone cradle was attached directly to the lower dash.
