WTB: Clean late E30 shell or car with mechanical problems

I'm in absolutely no hurry, but I will eventually have to replace my rusty E30. What I'm looking for is a straight, rust free, '90 or '91 E30 coupe (wife wants an airbag), preferably with good paint and a bad engine or transmission. I have a '90 325i 5 speed that's in perfect mechanical order, new timing belt, water pump, radiator, new fuel tank and pump, all new suspension, recent 5 speed swap, and pretty nice interior. But it's been wrecked in the past and came from the north, so EVERYTHING is rusty. I hate body work, and I fear that even if I liked body work this one would be too far gone.

Like I said, I'm in no hurry, but if any of you come across anything let me know!

Well, it's probably more than you want to spend (I'd like $3000 in current condition) and it's an '88 with no airbag, but my car may be a good candidate. Something seems south with the engine and I've lost all interest in attempting to fix it beyond doing a compression test (one kinda low; the rest reasonable - inconclusive), but the body is amazing for a Northeast car and the interior is in great condition, so for your use you could probably part out un-needed bits for a profit.

I'm honestly not sure that I'd feel safer with a 23 year old air bag.

I had similar thoughts, but when he wrote, "wife wants an airbag..." the decision has been made. Good luck getting it changed.

EXACTLY! I don't want one at all, new or old. But I generally want the lightest, simplest car I can find.

I like how he says body is an 8 out of 10, but there's clearly rust and you only get to see some of it as its cut off by the picture.
