it looks like my transmission is about to loose it....and sounds even more like it. lots of shavings so something is gone seriously wrong. does anyone in GRM land have a spare 5 speed for a 325e they would be wiling to part with?

thanks!

no differences in the 6 cylinder trans's. They were all the same

EDIT:

As far as I know, all M20 engined E30's used Getrag 260 transmissions, with the exception of the few produced for Europe with the dog-leg transmission. And all Getrag 260 transmissions are the same w/respt to gear ratio's. The early transmissions used on ETA cars have the bell housing timing sensor ports and will only accept the sheet metal shifter console. Around 87 some transmissions were produced with the timing sensor holes and would accept either the aluminum or sheet metal shifter console. From 9/87 on the transmissions don't have the bell housing holes for timing sensors and only accept the aluminum shifter console.

The red or green tags for fluid type simply acknowledge what fluid was used at build time. Those transmissions are identical internally.

no worries. i found a local one already to deal with the immediate needs so yours would be a spare. let me know when you think you may be in the area and we will work something out. you wouldnt happen to have the spare i motor that used to be its companion do you? thanks!

Yes but It has a spun bearing. I do have an eta 2.7 bare block the head is off but the head has an "I" cam in it.

thanks for the offer but i am going to have to pass. i really dont need another eta motor or trans right now as the car in question is back up and running. but eventually (read "not until all the other cars in may yard are running") i will probably swap an i motor into my eta powered track car. that is why i was asking if mr happy had it....
