Like to give my 6 year old a chance to try karting at the local track on the cheap. Looking for something serviceable. Doesn't need to be a winner, it's just to give him a taste of the crack pipe.

I'm doing the same research now as are some other GRM folks. You'll be looking for a "Kid Kart" and there are a variety of powerplants. it's worth making a stop by your local track on the next decent day. It's worth making sure you are buying into the correct spec of motor/kart to ensure it's right for your area. It seems like they range 1-3k depending for second hand machines from my initial research.

OP lives in Vermont. The next decent track day won't be until May! Bump for an awesome Dad!
Thanks Erik,
This is what they look like. Spec is fairly open at this point, as it's just a fun series. Clone motor prefered, but looks like motors typically sell separately. There are two basic sizes, jr and sr. Sr have a longer wheelbase to accommodate a bigger driver. Jr, is more suitable for a young guy like my son. As Ryed said, our local track won't be going for a few months yet.
I Googled champ kart vt. and saw a classified for one for sale in vt. Looks like fun! son has outgrown the kart so you will probably get a lot of info from the dad. Phone # from ad = 8o2 37one 86one 9.
