In true GRM fashion, I've decided to find a car that will accept the little 13" wheels I bought on eBay many moons ago. They're 4x100 and I've got a set of Yokohama R-compounds to go with them when I find the right chassis.
I'm looking for a running, driving early Rabbit, but would consider others that can accomplish the mission outlined above. Hell, I'd consider anything that seats 4 and has a clutch pedal, so let me know what you've got.
Not keen on paying more than 2k, but if yours is really nice maybe we could work out a swap for my big, beautiful, boring Benz.

My wife has a real nice 85 GTI here in Ohio. Needs a little work and can be had for $1K.
We'd totally trade straight up for the Benz too .

I have a 98 golf gti with a junkyard turbo setup. It runs and drives fine and even has ac. Could use a clutch as it slips in third gear with 10psi. Or I can turn the boost down and it may be ok at wide open throttle. The car has 140ishk miles and was a perfect daily but my dumbass decided it wasnt fast enough and turned it into a project car. It is currently on stock software and a begi rising rate regulator to add fuel pressure, it has stock injectors. Im fairly confident it will make the trip up to daytona and I can drive the benz back :)

The videos were recorded open downpipe, the car now has full exhaust. No cat but uses stock muffler so its quiet.

I bet you wish that MB was a diesel.
You could complete that dream if your Rabbit was a diesel.
You could exceed your wildest dreams if the Rabbit was Camouflage!
You can buy my fully ITB prepped '83 GTI Rabbit for $2k. It's no longer road legal.
Pics. taken at Gingerman this year.

It doesn't look too far off though! I guess it all depends on where you live. Here in Indiana, I see no reason why you couldn't drive that on the street.

Probably not if you roadrace it. I planned on doing something better but wanted to get it running boosted as cheap as possible.
In reply to spoolin:
Cool car, but not what I'm looking for now. I've got an itch for something cheap and simple.
Crank windows, stupid reliability and/or ease of maintenance.

1) Not really, thanks.
2) TDI Rabbit, yes please!
3) Camouflage makes every car cooler. It's the new flat black.
This is not mine, I know nothing about it other than the ad, but it may be along the lines of what you're looking for: '81 ''RallyX Prepped" Rabbit
I would spray bomb some camo over the airbrush work in a hurry.
^^ That's VERY close to what I'm looking for. Add carpet and a rear seat and I'd be dialing now.
As it is though, I've got to sell the Benz first or find someone wanting to trade.
Civic Wagons are also very much on my radar.
< edit- > Just read the whole ad, and see that he has the interior pieces...
The thread has a later post where the price is lowered to $2K for the car or $2300 for everything. Start dialing.
Message sent. Still need to find a new home for the Benz, willing to deal.
94 Geo Prizm LSI, 5 speed, 4 doors, 4 X 100, crank windows, manual locks, cold a/c, DOHC 1.7 power.
Very slight crease in the right rear door, newer front right fender (blue) rest of the car is green but could use some clear coat repair.
Starts, runs, drives, great and I could bring it down to Gainesville with me.
I didn't look at you pics, but I'd trade for the Benz straight up or I'll sell it outright for 1850.
I have an 89 Accord Coupe. I bought it needing a transmission, put the transmission in, and lost interest. It needs a bit of a suspension refresh, but I'm betting it will be about the cheapest thing you're gonna find. It won't fit 13" wheels as it sits, but I have a set of brakes from a DX Accord that I can either install or just include with the package. You can get dual piston calipers from overseas to more than make up for the size of the rotor.
Make me an offer and it will probably move.
In reply to Tom Heath:
If you end up getting it with the rally tires I know where you could unload them easily assuming you don't want them.

No title. Comes with the log book (issued August '97).
Cage is 1.75" dia. (0.120 thickness) with NASCAR door bars on the drivers side and dual pass. door bars. Full guages and nice aluminum race seat with leg brace. Last race was October 2001.
Notes list it as having 6 race wins in '98 and the Central Florida SCCA ITB champ that year.
