I'm guessing that's probably original paint. A kid that I went to high school with had a similar one that was dark metallic red over silver. I think his was a 1980 as well. I think that was the final year for the Bobcat and Pinto.

What that thing needs is a little love from Racer Walsh. I know they just picked up a Pinto "Cruisin" Wagon. This would fit right in!
