I have a 2005 Focus ST that needs to go to a new home. I bought it brand new and has about 212k miles. The ST in this generation have 2.3L with 5 speed manual and 4 wheel disc brakes.

Here is the reason it’s a $500 car. It has been parked for almost a year, but the battery is dead. So it would be classified as ran when parked. The driver’s side front fender is caved in from a hit and run when I had to park it on the street. Also there is a vibration at about 70 mph which I suspect is a CV joint or axle issue. And there is a crack in the windshield on the passenger side. This is a project which doesn’t run.

This could be a cheap rally-x, auto-x, or challenge car. Or with some work it could be a first car or beater to drive on the street. I’d rather see this turned into a fun project for someone on GRM than sell it on Craigslist. My wife is tired of looking at this in the driveway, so I’m open to offers.

The car is in Bowling Green, OH.

Trades are a possibility, although I’m getting rid of this to thin the herd. But If you’re interested, then let me know what you have.

Is it an ST from Ford, or a ZX4 with an ST from PepBoys?

Holy cow, a real factory ST.  You really DO learn something new every day.  OK, now I kinda want it...

It is a factory ST. It was basically Ford’s replacement for the SVT Focus.

What does it look like underneath? Typical OH rust I assume?

In reply to KevinLG :

Yes, there is light rust on the underbody, and some doors and trunk lid are bubbling or rust colored on the lower edge. I haven’t seen anything structural to be concerned about, but you can check out and make your own call.

Too bad you're not closer. My son has the exact same car, sitting in my driveway...without the dents and rust.Engine went kaput after he and his friends decided to work on it ... without them knowing what they're doing. Bad bad engines noises. Now, he has to drive his grandma's '99 Sable until he decides to throw money at the Focus... heh, heh, heh.

What are the odds that a fresh battery would get it started and an oil change would make it drive-able for a 100 mile trip to NE Indiana? Before it was parked, was it burning excessive amounts of oil, was the clutch slipping, were all gears functioning in the transmission, or were there other issues that will require near term tear down and evaluation? If you still have it on Sunday and your schedule permits, I would like to come over and take a look at it.

In reply to fusion66 :

A year ago I would have no worries driving it 100 miles. A side from the vibration there were no major issues (nor can I recall anything minor). I just stopped driving it, because I got a new daily driver.  Before that I was driving it 80 miles a day for my commute to work. Any major issues would be due to it sitting for a year.

I am new to the forum so I can not send a PM at this time. My game plan would be to check it out Sunday and evaluate whether I would be comfortable trying to make the drive home with it (I would bring a battery and try to start it) or if I would wait until the following weekend and come back with a tow dolly or trailer.  Can you contact me at two 6 zero three 3 three 2 eight six five please (text is easier during work hours)?

these make for excellent rallycross starting points if anyone is looking, it's the best engine offering (2.3L duratec) put into the chassis. Suspension and transmission upgrades are numerous and NASA even had a road racing spec class for them.

Sold. Many thanks to Nate90lx for helping me free up the brakes so I could drive it home. Not sure of the plans yet (autox or rallyx) but I may start a build thread once I have a firm plan.

I’m glad you got it safely on its way to a new home. Hopefully it will be turned into something cool, or you can have some fun at autox or rallyx with it. I’d really enjoy a build thread on it.

I thought the five day window to purchase a vehicle was in the terms of the user agreement. smiley  I was trying to pull a double by selling a car in the first 10 days also but not looking like I'll pull that one off.

Technically trying to help my sister sell this:

Helping her sell it is in my best interest so I don't end up buying it smiley
