I think the ‘84 non-turbo had a solid axle. My ‘85 had the independent rear and rear squat feature. When under it I would convince myself it was “almost” a 300ZX
If you want one get the turbo version or the later V6, 5-speed, 5 lug wheels.
I always thought the v6 version was pretty sweet. A coworker had one of the turbos. He was having trouble at end of his ownership, but I think I had a lot of miles on it. It had the funky dash.
The hatchbacks are amazing. I would love one.
