The motorhome is gone but the drivetrain is in the garage.  Engine is just a 455 big block, low compression so not much interest here probably. But the bellhousing has a chain to a turbo 400 trans that faces forwards and is next to the left side cylinders.  And on the end of the trans is a diff.  So this would make an interesting start to a V8 mid engine ?????

Core value on this is about 500, will entertain offers just to clear out the garage.

I’m happy you’re 355 miles away and also sad, because i’ve been wanting one of these for a while but also broke.  Good luck

Sounds like an old GMC drive train.  I wish I had the room for it.

Mileage is over 100K, that's all I know.  No pics, right now it is still bolted to the engine so any detail would not be visible.

If you google GMC motorhome transmission you will see several pics.

the engine is worth more than the trans here in the South. anyone looking to hop it up is going to spend 3-5 hundred in parts on the trans. there is a guy on Ebay selling a plate to hold the TQ in place and let's the trans to be set back from the Engine so the diff is behind the Engine, but the trans is also behind the diff.

so here you can get 4-5 hun. for the engine, but only a hundred or 2 for the Trans.

THEY ARE A STANDARD TORNADO / ELDORADO  FWD same as the 60's and 70's, there are gear sets available too up to 4.10

Aren’t the guts of the transmission a TH400?

Yes they are TURBO 400 transmissions, they are unique in the fact they turn backwards to normal transmissions. No you cannot replace with a standard trans, if you could I would have done a 4 speed swap 30 years ago.

With the production of the GM FWD TRANS. And now they are stronger,  a proper sidewinder could be built like a V-8 Fiero, I think the 4t80 in the caddy would hold a good v8 mid engine but they are VERY heavy.

My latest Vision for GTX/ CORVETTE, IS HAVING THE ENGINE BESIDE ME, AND USING A fuel dragster type of Blower Belt, to keep the trans inline with the diff.        those belts can handle a couple thousand H P, so not worried about breaking one.
