I've finally gotten my mom sold on letting me compete in the challenge, and I couldn't be happier. I sent her all the information and she was impressed. Now comes the part of finding something to build. I'm putting some feelers out there for challenge priced air-cooleds. I'm going to for an ACVW because they're something I feel comfortable working on and they're freakin' cool. I've spent the last couple of months working on the me and my moms '74 so I've got a fair amount of experience. It's a hoot to drive and easy to work on. I'm not really limiting myself to beetles either, let me know if you've got something or know someone who does.
I would like it to be semi-close to Alabama if possible; however if the car is right we can most likely work something out.
I like that second one, The battery tray is a $19 piece of metal too.
Probably too far away, but I've been tempted on a few down here in Texas.
Running '65 for $1200
'64 that looks to be in decent shape
But, I'm also partial to the flush headlight pre-'67 models in general.

I have a rusty Baja I am itching to get rid of...its in Detroit though. Bonus points for a type 3 trade!
In reply to NoPermitNeeded:
The rockers are toast. The rest seems to be just surface rust.

Lemme know if you want some more pics.
I think detroit is a little far away, but is this the bug you were gonna dorito swap?
In reply to NoPermitNeeded:
AM dorito swapping, ha ha. But I keep running into other concerning problems...but thats a topic for my own thread. I realized its a little far gone for what I want and I can fit a wankel under the floor of a type 3 with minimal effort, so if a reasonable chassis came my way id happily dump the beetle chassis and start over with the experience from the beetle.

I know a few dinguses at GT who could take a peek for you.
This just showed up on west side of GA.

Looks clean and a bit hopped up too.

That seems like a damn good example for the price.
