SOLD!

Totaly Mine, Totaly Affiliated.

So I just picked up two cars in less than a week and this one has to go. It has been my daily driver for the last 6 years and 90,000 miles, and it only left me stranded once when I burst a heater hose.

This car is mechanically sound and I would have no issues driving it across the country right now. Most of the issues are cosmetic, and since I am the worst salesman in the world I will list every single issue I am aware of.

Details:

1992 Mazda Miata

166,000 miles

1.6 L Inline 4

5-speed manual

Pioneer CD/MP3 with aux and usb input

All stock, except for the radio and steering wheel, and the stock wheel will be included.

SOLD! $1,000 as-is, where-is, no warranty expressed or implied. *Price is only good through Oct 11th! After that it is going on Craigslist for 2k!!!*

Located in Cumming, Georgia (45-60 min north of Atlanta)

Please email me at ***.  Please include GRM Miata in the subject.

Good:

Mechanically sound, except for a few minor issues noted below.

Shifts great

Cold AC

Power windows work (passenger is a little slow, but works)

All lights work, except for one of the side marker lights.

All gauges work

Cruise control works (surges and bucks occasionally, explained below)

Oil changed every 5,000 miles

Timing belt, water pump, plugs, wires, coils, and shocks were replaced some time between 120k and 145k (misplaced my maintenance book).

New tires were just installed in July at 163,925 miles. 185/60/14 Hankook Optimo H724.

I also have a complete set of pads and rotors (stoptech/centric from rockauto) that have never been installed and are included with the car.

Bad Mechanical:

It leaks/burns about a quart of oil every 1,500-2,000 miles. I originally thought it was the valve cover gasket and replaced that a couple of times. I recently learned about the Cam Angle Sensor o-ring and I think that is the issue, but I haven't had time to replace it.

The throw out bearing just started making noise. I heard a rattling while idling, clutch out, with the ac on, and one time while taking off from a light. It doesn't make noise all the time and still works fine, just want to be honest.

The speedometer cable is on the way out. Most of the time it is fine, but occasionally the speedometer will jump around +/- 3 of your actual speed. This also causes the cruise control to buck and surge when it is happening. It's not all the time and it usually settles back down after a mile or so. I have a new cable that will be included with the car, I just never got around to installing it.

Bad Cosmetic:

The top needs to be replaced. It is ripped on the back right corner, and has a couple of other holes, all covered with tape. The only place it really leaks is at the window seals, but the tape has to be replaced occasionally.

The clear coat is pealing, there is no clear coat on the hood or trunk, and the paint is chipping around the windshield. The car was repainted before I bought it, and I think it was a cheap job. It still looks fine from a distance, but up close you can see it pealing.

There is a scrape above the driver rear wheel where I was sideswiped.

There is a small rust spot between the passenger door and rear tire. This is the only rust spot I am aware of, and the underside is clean (but oily).

The driver seat bolster is torn

The door seal at the top of the passenger window is torn and leaks a little bit.

There are a few other minor bumps and scrapes that are typical of a car this age and mileage, but I tried to point out the major issues.

Other items:

At ~130k miles, I had an issue where the car started running lean and pinging. I decided to try to limp home and by the time I got there the engine was knocking. I picked up a used engine from MazMart that came from a wrecked car. They thought it had ~90-100k on it but couldn't find paperwork to prove it. While the engine was out I replaced the timing belt, idlers, tensioners, water pump, and all other gaskets and accessories recommended as part of that service.

The pictures show the driver door handle/armrest missing. I removed it to have a little more space, but I still have it and it is included.

So I have to go to Albertville, AL for a Progress Rail meeting.  If I fly into B-ham I get there too late requiring me to drive an hour and coming in the night before.  If I take an early flight to Nashville I can rent a car and get to the meeting on time except now I'm driving 2-1/2 hours with an hour to spare.  Atlanta is the same thing - fly in early and drive 2-1/2 hours to Albertville but only spend one night on the road.  Is it a big deal to stay an extra night in a hotel?  Yes, after traveling 14 years @ 40% travel I find ways to not be in any hotel rooms.

So now I can fly into Atlanta one way, go to my meeting and return the next day to the Atlanta area, buy the Miata, and drive it back to Chicago.  What could possibly go wrong?  Maybe it just got sold out under me? My wife can only wish.

I can't believe no one has said "I'll take it."  I'd take it myself but I already have a white NA.

That looks like a good start to a project I want to do... Can't swing a trip down that way right now though. Anyone want to deliver it to me? ;P

I have an interested party coming to look at it this evening. I'll post tonight if it is still available or not.

In reply to Mazdax605 :

I have no doubt that the car would make it just fine. It's been to Florida and back several times as well as Mississippi and back at least once. My only concern would be fatigue from the road and wind noise being on the highway that long. The only reason I am selling it is that my commute is mostly highway, I needed 4 doors on my daily, and I just got another toy car and don't have room to keep it.

That being said, it is a 26 year old car with 166k miles and E36 M3 happens with older cars. I wouldn't expect any thing to happen, but Murphy was an optimist
