Wow, that takes me back. I worked for the the parent company (Ontario Bus Industries) from 1984 to 1995. That’s a remarkably original looking Orion I with a Detroit Diesel (IIRC 6V71) and Thermo King A/C. It was a fun place to work when the orders were coming in, but it was difficult during the lean periods. Lots of big ticket items made it hard to control the cash flow.

Thanks for sharing.

It’s probably good for my neighbors that I have no way to get that home. We had the newer Orion V and VII at work but I like the looks of that one more.

I agree, I never liked the look of the V’s and newer Orion’s. The Orion I was originally built to be a small bus (30’ and 96” wide) for feeder routes and smaller communities. But demand forced them to stretch the length of them to 35 and 40’. And when Orion needed to sell 102” wide busses to stay competitive, the Orion I was discontinued. Back in the day we also built a few custom ones as motor homes and ambulances.

When I started driving we mostly had Vs and RTSs. The Vs were very plain looking but they are much nicer to drive. The RTSs was laid out for a driver to be about 4’6, 100lbs with a really long left arm because for some reason the floor next to the driver seat was the best place to put the parking brake knob.
