I was looking for a manual rack recently and found that the powered racks are actually slightly quicker. Depowered racks are the more common solution in spec miata than the manual racks.

I ran a depowered rack in my miata, Its superior to a factory manual rack imo, and its super easy.

Unless you weld the shuttle, de-powering a Miata rack leaves a slight amount of play that the factory manual rack wont have.

Had no one mentioned this bit of play, I might never have noticed. Now that I know about it, it might not be acceptable. My thoughts are that I will most likely end up going back to powered rack or electric assist, so wont worry about it for now.

I did do a search for a manual rack since it would have a ratio that is easier on the driver's arms, but they are not that common.

What's your timeline?

I have one I could bring to challenge or ship you from Chicago. I also know very little about it at the moment (came with a big car parts pile I bought - boy am I a sucker for car part piles). I can take a better look next weekend when I get home.

I am parting my 99 miata. I have a depowered power rack with a welded spindle and seals removed the FM way. #no play.
