Yes indeed--- It just hit me that I don't have any of these old radios hanging around. (I used to have several) I'm looking to instal simple tunes in my TR6. I don't care about an AUX input, or CD's or streaming. AM/FM with a cassette will do just fine---- and look correct in the old Triumph. My dash already has the two holes, and I have no desire for anything more modern. Let me know if any of you have one hanging around. I'm thinking $100 or less.

and yes....I know about the "Custom Autosound" and vintage radio joints out there--- but I'm just looking for an old radio---- not a $200 modern equivalent. If you have an old Pioneer Supertuner, or Kenwood, Alpine, or other 1/2 way decent brand, please let me know!

Thanks!

Something like this (anything similar will do)

If you have one, please PM me, or email : Joe@grassrootsmotorsports.com

In reply to Joe Gearin:

Sorry I can't help, but I miss my old super tuner. Probably a generation or two before the pic you posted. It picked up stations better than anything I have now, or ever had, and sounded better than most also. Probably one of the best sounding systems I had in my 30 years of car's.

Now I am trying to figure out what car I had it in last and trying to remember if I pulled it before selling the car. It may still be lurking around in a box that I have not opened since moving into my house 20 years ago.

I've got a stock Ford one sitting around. Not sure if it would work in the triumph, but it's am/fm and cassette.

Iris---- totally agree about the old Pioneer Supertuners. I lived about 50-60 miles outside of Chicago growing up, and those things would suck in WXRT and other stations with way more clarity and reliability than other stereos. I'd love to find another.

Thanks RevRico--- but I'm looking for an older aftermarket stereo.

I had a Supertuner in the first vehicle I ever bought- a 1977 GMC Suburban. Agreed with all the folks here, that was a great radio.

I have been hoarding any and all dual shaft radios, because the new options out there either are terrible (those Pyle units I see for about $20) or super expensive, like the Custom Autosound ones. Even the older dual shaft units are commanding stupid prices on fleabay now. LIKE THIS ONE

The 80's Chevettes had nice, simple, compact AM/FM radios. Some of them were monaural, nice for older cars that only had a single speaker in the dash. I have one of these old Chevette units in one of my Volvo 122s. No cassette, though.

I really need to spend some time and go through my pile and test them. I know there's a super-rare Optimus unit I bought brand new at some point in the 90's...they heydey of the cassette units. It has Dolby C, Aux-in, etc. Top of the line back in its day.

I'm in the same boat. Most everything I own is MoPar, so really no need for shaft mount stereos. That all changed when I picked up the Eagle wagon. I thought I had hoarded a few SuperTuners since my youth, but I think they may have been misplaced after the move. Fortunately a friend had a Fairmont they were parting out that had a Kenwood in it. Hopefully it works, or I will be back scouring CL and eBay again...

I also miss the Pioneer Supertuner. I had a few of these, I recall my brother buying the first digital radio model.

Tangentially related, I poked around on eBay for 80s vintage Blaupunkt head units for the 944, figuring it would be more period-correct than a modern one. People want stupid money for those things.

Depending on how soon you need it, I will be yanking the cassette radio out of my GT6 soon. Personally, I do want things like a CD player and an AUX input. While I will replace/save the original 2-post mounting plate, keeping things period correct is not something I care much about.

Found one:

KEH-6262TR Supertuner III

TR is for truck acoustics IIRC, Super Bass Control, lol
