I recently moved to Ohio and found an AMC 360 V8 crate engine in my grandfather's old goat barn. Turns out the midwest is exactly as Americana as everyone said.
The engine is still sealed from when he ordered it in 1986 and still rotates by hand. Now I just need something to drop it in. Anybody got an old AMC project or a Jeep with a seized engine they're willing to part with?
I would particularly love to find a Cherokee Chief, J-series truck, or some AMC wagon.

In reply to Gasoline:
That Hornet would be tempting if it was closer. Someone needs to save that poor thing.
In reply to stan:
Everyone up here keeps saying 'Gremlin' too. As much fun as that would be, I'm holding out for a big wagon or a truck at this point.

How do you feel about sexxy long Jeeps that most people don't realize exist?

Potentially good. I would love a Scrambler or something. I'm woefully uneducated on Jeeps though- What am I looking at here?
Dang, that Hornet in Houston sold fast.

I've been scrolling through pages of CJ6 pictures and I still can't wrap my mind around the LWB proportions... It's like an old Land Rover or a Land Cruiser station wagon. Except with a Jeep face. Definitely interesting but not really my cup of tea.

Same WB as a Scrambler, except without the useless overhang in the back. I've owned 4 Scramblers, 3 CJ6s and an M170, and I prefer the CJ6/M170 to the CJ8
Amc was so weird. My only guess was that when they built the cj6 they had a big stack of long frames and a big stack of tiny cj5 doors just sitting around and figured "well, we might as well use them up". The doors are small because cj5 was a short wheelbase and it was necessary to shape them like that. The doors sucked to use because it's harder to climb in and out, especially with boots on. Why they used them on a vehicle that was two feet longer is beyond me. But cj6 is rare and cool. I say get it.

I have to admit the design grew on me somehow. Just a day later it doesn't look as weird as I remember thinking it was yesterday...
So what's in the back? Two benches?
Also I have to say I dig the "half top" models...
