I became aware of this today, pretty amazing event NASA-NE puts on to honor our military:

National Auto Sport Association Northeast Region honors our Heroes

On October 26, 2013 at New Jersey Motorsports Park NASA Northeast Region in cooperation with “Racing For a Cause” Supporting Our Heroes held a tribute to our Wounded Warriors. Caption Meir Rigen is a former fighter pilot trainer for the US Air Force and founded “Racing For a Cause” to help honor and give back to those heroes who have protected our way of life and freedom. In less than three weeks we organized a tribute that touched everyone present at the event.

During the lunch hour we assembled vehicles for a parade lap led by Jason Brasse a representative for the Wounded Warrior Project and our guest speaker. As the parade lap ended the race cars were staged on the pit lane. Our guest singer sang the Mariah Carey song “Hero” followed by the National Anthem and the color guard presented our colors. Jason emerged from the race car and addressed the crowd sharing his experiences in Afghanistan and the injuries he sustained. There wasn’t a dry eye in the audience.

The command was given for the racers to get in their cars and Jason said the famous words “Gentlemen Start Your Engines”. The RFC race car driven by Robert Casella with Jason as a passenger paced the field to start the race and what a race it was.

The video link below shows clips of how the event came off.
