See what happens when you have a weekend off, you upload you're projects, here is my SAAB DD replacement.
Completely stock P5, nothing too special but I've always wanted to rally-x just could not justify doing it on the cars I've had, Now I do see!!!
Now after the rally-x I finally had time to do the Motor mounts so I got some AWR MM with the 88Duro and was rattling my brain for the 1st 300mi but it has become much much better and the shifts are very nice too, next project on this damn thing IDK yet but would like to bring the understeer down a bit and if I have anything left over from my RX8 project.
Yup, when pushed, tbat cast iron lump up front wants to make the car keep going straight in the turns. AWR has a 21.5mm hollow sway bar for the back that would likely help.
Just picked up an '02 and was having rallyX thoughts! you have made things worse
Tom, you definitely need a louder muffler though. At the last event Roberto almost got run over shagging a cone and didn't even hear you coming. Your car is like a silent ghost on the course :)

Lol, need to make a slip on/off fitting so when I get there it's easy removal!
Right so its been a while, here are some pics from the events with WDCR in Jul and Oct

Hard pack clay turns in to a fast course
In regards to the "build" I've just been doing basic maintenance and replaced a starter that decided to die out on me, kinda having troubles finding mods on the cheap for these cars so any suggestions are greatly wanted lol
Odd thing too, im actually having issues with over-rotation (mostly driver error but still) suggestions from the gallery?
do the stock airbox mods to turn it into a cai?
In reply to cghstang:
Very true, guess that's what I was doing as the day went on and my times got cleaner lol
So how in the hell can you shag 17 cones and still get a class win?
Don't ask me I was expecting to get the coveted most cones of the day....
?????
Yeah so winter sucks and so does doing wheel bearings, but it needed to be done so this was the day it decided to kick my ass but at least its done for now (apparently the P5's love to eat them up...)
I'm hoping for struts and springs sooner or later but its getting hard to find anything other then OE replacement anything for struts, And no josh no exhaust yet....
I have had good luck with timken branded bearings. Proteges in general like to eat wheel bearings. Especially the ones with the drain hole in the hubs. What sort of price range are you in for suspension?

So being in a rush and pissed (yeah being Scottish and Irish does not help at all) I did not take pics but I did get the rear seals and put a nice bead of high temp RTV in the drain hole so I hope that will help.
In regards to suspension, quality at a good price ($4-600, non coilover's) but thinking bushings and some sort of cat back (have had many complaints its too quiet on the course) would be the limit for this year but still would like ideas for good struts/shocks that are still made.
In reply to JtspellS:
I know of tokico blues and illumnia whites. Not sure which would be better, but I've heard very good reports on the build quality compared to say kyb's which the sway bar mount breaks. I'd have to check prices they may or may not be out of you range.
I would never recommend SU but here are the "blues"
Tokico on SU
Back from the dead yes I know, it has been a long basically neglectful winter with this poor sap but it's coming time to put time back in to it.
Still have yet to do struts but that and tires are on the short stack as of now, hell if it has a good bill after a service this week I might even be out at the wdcr event this weekend! (need a makeshift skidplate soon from what I've heard about the site though)
I just did stagg struts. Like them as much as the bilstein that I usually run.
1/2 coil front and 1/4 coil rear drops 1 inch all the way around.
In reply to Dusterbd13:
Problem is I want to keep at at least stock (it's a rough rallycross course) but also slightly higher spring rates too, this is where I'm currently stuck at.
Regardless id still reccimend the stagg. Already put 2k on them, and they seem to be valved right.
Ride is similar to tokiko and racingbeat.
In reply to Dusterbd13:
What springs are you using? And where did you get them from, the stagg website sent me to some other site that is cheaper than even a full set of E36 M3ty monroe shocks...
Picked them up on eBay. And they are stupid cheap. I think mine were under 200 shipped. For the full set.
Running protege es springs that have been slightly trimmed.
Last protege5 I had takeoff tokikos and springs from a mazdaspeed. Its been a few years, but this setup rides and drives very similar.
I say whatever you go for steer far far away from KYB. My vote would be something cheaper, but valved right since you would be offroading.
So its been quite some time, so heres the last update, but before that I would like to thank Shaun and katie (monix ((can't quite remember their name on here)) on the boards and again sorry for this
) for the help with installing front wheel bearings (again.....) earlier this year and hopefully this time it will last longer then 2 years lol.
On the way to work in my beast and I was getting up to the Robert E Lee bridge (Richmond still feels he needs a bridge in his honor, but not going to get in to that) on the way to work and my brake pedal felt like crap and come to a stop some what early and then the brake smell and smoke come pouring out, damn front calipers are seized up...
So why not upgrade? This is known as the OEM BBK for proteges and figured I'de give it a shot,
04 Mazda 6 brake kit left, OEM right, as you can see its a bit of a difference, it does bolt right on too with no modifications, you can go 07 and later for an even larger & rotor pad but it was about $80 more for that kit.
More impressions after work tonight but after bedding the brakes it feels great, will need to get some better pads (just got generic loaded calipers) eventually.
Impressions Centric pads are really not too good IMHO but will deal with them for now. I also forgot in the past year or so I have acquired a PCM from a MP3 (installed) as well as its short shifter (not installed yet due to odd sized shift knob thread) control arms and struts are now definitely needed before next season let alone inspection.
Well I've been neglecting all sorts of E36 M3 until a slight highway vibration became a little much, have been building a pile of parts that is mostly installed now
I am trying to make the east coast rallycross this year but have to finish up the rest of the install for the STAGG struts (over torqued the strut mount bolts causing a bad right side clunk and stripping out the locknuts, luckily the struts are still fine) and aligning the car and hope nothing else goes wrong, will say the only issue I might see over time is the aftermarket lower control arms are not as braised as OEM so we will see....
