I was driving home in the sunlight on Thursday...first time in a while. Came across a road I have driven at least 1300 times. I always am looking for rusty gold. And I saw a hint of it sticking out from a torn tarp. 3 hours later
The front end is a 1926 Star. The back end is not identified yet.

So it's yours now? Cool!
A year or so ago, I found an ad for a Star boat tail speedster. It was a complete car that was built a long time ago. They're pretty cool and not very common. I'll try to see if I still have a photo of it.

Still trying to come across something like that to build up for the Race of Gentlemen. Wife and I went last summer and she gave the thumbs up.

That's exactly what we were thinking when I found the ad for the boattail. We were in the middle of our Model A project and we weren't making great progress. I think it was six grand and was in a warehouse with a bunch of other cars. I sent several emails but never got a response, so I guess somebody beat us to it. Unfortunately, I can't find the photo. I remember either a large star or "STAR" on the grill in brass.

Are you sure that the back half is not a Star?

Yes, no body line and different heights. I am interested in keeper the tail section, not the front.

It's certainly not a Ford, but you probably knew that already.

Some Essex roadsters had fairly plain quarters like that.

Looks like it may have been a 1929 Essex Challenger Coupe. Thanks Woody, I didn't look at the Essex until you ID'd it. The top of the section appeared to have been a coupe. The short vertical tail is pre-30.
I'll continue to dig.

Did it originally have suicide doors?

Maybe. No latch in open, and no evidence of hinge.

A coupe would have had suicide doors, but not a roadster.
Can you post larger photos of the car? They're not very big. Also, if you're a member over on the Jalopy Journal board, post pictures there - mystery cars usually get identified pretty quickly.
Those pictures are actually linked from the HAMB Slightly bigger pictures there.

Does that 0.25 count towards the challenge budget?
As many of you know, we picked up a roadster chassis for $100.
The current plan is to take the Star/Essex body, and put it over the chassis.
