Why cant you just weld this into the back of the Anglia? Same track as up front, no?

In reply to NOHOME :

I thought about it. But its alot easier to just toss another axle onto the leaves.

Honestly pure laziness is the only real reason not to. I may pull the leaves and stick it under and see.

What a cool little car. Will be riot when you get it done. Following closely.

Also may need to swing by and borrow your skid steer.

If you plan on keeping it a fwd I’d either see how much work that stock Mazda rear setup is or a older solid beam setup from something with the same bolt pattern.

Earlier generation Dodge minivans had a solid beam with leaf springs. Tons of them in junkyards.

You in the hill country? Skidsteer is down again, tends to break often when it's the same age as me

Internet says caravans were 5x100. I'm rocking standard Ford 5x4.5 or 5x114.3.

I need to toss the Mazda rear under and see what it looks like. That's the low cost option

Thinking of sn95 rearend. Going see about getting one tomorrow if it's not sold yet.

And if I ever change my mind on fwd I will have the rear I want in it anyways.

Sounds like a solid plan

No luck on the cheap rear, never heard back.  Asked a different guy that was parting out a sn95 and he wanted 300 and me to pull it. So turned that one down,  if I'm pulling it I'll just go to a jy and pass less.

Went to start on it today and somehow the rear Jack stands feel over and the rear dropped to the ground.

But after getting it back off the ground I got to work.

I got the trans mount all welded up and on.  Braced the mount to the strut tower to give some strength back to the strut tower and patched the hole I cut out earlier.

Can we for a moment back up to the part where you might have been under the car when it just decided to drop to the ground"?

In reply to NOHOME :

I was jacking up the front when the back tipped over. Working by yourself and in gravel for many years has taught me to never put my self under something unless I have to. Even though I had the jackstands on some wood blocks all the rain made the ground soft. I kinda thought it was going tip but figured it might not and worse case it falls to the ground.

I lifted the rear back up with the bucket truck and just sat a 3x3 steel tube under the leaf's, this way it can tip over the fully extended Jack stands

But I do really like the stance of the rear, that's about 4.5in clearance to the bottom of the leaf springs.

It officially is holding it self up now. Front springs are to stiff, they don't compress at all.

Can you just make a rear out of some square tubbing and some hub assembles with the correct wheel bolt pattern? It’s a very light car.

It's a shame there weren't AWD Mazda 3's of that generation:  FWD vs RWD..why not both?

Apparently no one wants my money. Never heard back from the wheel guy and the axle guy pushed me back to next weekend.

Going work on finish welding things tomorrow. Might try and get the floors in tomorrow .
