just wanted to show even the old guys (61) can restore an old road racer.
Bought this with about 2000 pounds of spare parts (engines, trans, rearends, wheels, etc.)
I plan to Vintage race it

Go for it. Nothing better than a SCAA (Senior Citizen Car Aholic.) I'm a tad older. What engine, driveline do you plan?
Thanks Dirty dog! I will put the 1296 in it (i now have several of them, LOL), 4 speed, stock rear end. nice thing is, the roll cage is totally legal with no changes.
I haven't raced in 21 years, but it will be fun and maybe get my 31 year old son (ex Marine) to race it too.
My shop is now a disaster, 67 MG Midget, Track magic Gearbox kart, 280Z with 350 chevy and my daily driver, the 1972 Fod maverick 2 door.
Thanks!
Good luck, with your project. My son prefers the straight line performance. Thank your son for his service.
Love it, can't wait to watch the build. I also salute your son for his service to our great country!
I'm impressed with how the steering, um, device takes the current trend toward flat-bottomed wheels and goes even further, with a flat top and sides. Seriously, though, this sounds like a fun build. Watching with interest!
You have to be careful of splinters on the "steering" device...........
It's now on jack stands, stripping it apart. I bought a new fuel cell and taking car of the chassis first before tackling the body (although it is pretty straight). More photo's will be posted this weekend.
Thanks for the kind words on my Marine son, i will pass it on.
the cage is 1.75 mild steel, .120 wall thickness. Bolted to the frame with a minimum of 3/16 thick plates, top and bottom. Definitely exceeds the rules for a cage.
Only light surface rust, which should be easy to remove. It's been garaged for the last 20 years
