I would really like an '02 and I'd like it to be manual. Most of the '02s ive seen are manual but they're pretty expencive, and the automatic one are way less (at least the ones i've seen). So what 4 or 5-speed manual transmition would fit in the 1970's BMW 2002?

You should be able to find the Getrag 240s that will fit for pretty cheap. I've sold two of them (WITH the M10 engines they were attached to) for under $300 each in the last couple years.

Go find an early e30 318i in a junkyard. Nobody ever takes the drivetrains out of those but they're essentially drop-in for the 2002, IIRC.

In reply to irish44j: What would you say about the Getrag 245/4 5-speed tranny for the 1976 '02?

I would say it's a fine transmission. I don't have personal knowledge of whether all the bellhousing bolts match up with the block, but that should be easy to find out the answer to.
