Yes, I suffer from weird first world problems.
Second terrible challenge car idea for the spitfire. Somehow attach the frame to some sort of cart/formula car. That way you can use the 30lb "factory frame" and be within the bounds of the rules.
I love Spitfire swaps. Watching.
In for pictures of you dual-wielding the twin Miller prize MIGs.

i need to see this widened spitfire now...
I just checked and don't have any current pics on my phone or work machine.
I will get some this evening. The car is much easier to get to now that it does not have to share the garage with a Corvette.
In my case the body was cut down the center and widened ~14 inches. The windshield frame has been removed and simple lexan bug deflector fabricated. Still lots of body work to do though.
There is a badly oudated build thread with all of one picture in it. Spitfire Mk8

dont tempt me with a good time...

That is super cool!
It needs to be in this thread as some inspiration in my opinion!
Lol-
Question: How do you deal with the windshield in a widened car?
Answer: Here's a widened car with no windshield.

I actually wanted to retain the factory spitfire width and just make massive/functional flares over the wheels. if any of the floor sticks out from the solstice it should be easy to mold/fabricate them into a permanent side splitter. if not it will get hacked flush with the side panels of the spitfire and will make the flares that much more prominent.
One challenge with this approach is the width of the Solstice tunnel compared to the interior width of a Spitfire. As a point of reference, the already very narrow seats of a Spitfire are barely 6" apart.
Having said that, it's possible there is room to be gained as the Solstice tunnel may be wider that needed for a manual trans in order to allow for the automatic option.
In reply to MrJoshua :
In my case, a 70 to 79 F150 windshield is the right shape and width if you cut it properly. I tried with a junkyard windshield that was already cracked. I was nearly finished when the crack ran and trashed my work. It was worth the $25 test, but not hundreds for new glass to practice on.
The current state of my spitfire
Well 1700 dollars and an hour round trip later. The solstice has been acquired! Drove it around/on the trailer and even did a burnout lol.
Stapled to the salvage title he gave me was his original purchase receipt from copart. Makes me feel like i got a relatively decent deal, although that is subjective.
An Exotic Spitfire sounds like a great swap!

Your builds are always impressive. Looking forward to watching this come together.
Car number 2 has been acquired!
Im sure yall can see where this is going....
In reply to wheelsmithy (Joe-with-an-L) :
Thank you. I appreciate it!

transverse middie? Or is that just the supercharger donor?
edit JK re transverse middie
Supercharger on a RWD Ecotec is tough because the inlet faces the firewall. I'm sure you're aware of that, though. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses!
Yes the plan is to use the lsj blower kit from the cobalt on the solstice. It has a smaller pulley, ported blower, 60lb injectors, and a full cat back ill be making work on this car.
Probably rob some odds and ends parts as well like the boost gauge, etc.
What's the condition and end use for the rest of that LSJ motor?
In reply to ToManyProjects :
The head is in good shape and apparently has zzp work done to it. May be ported. Not sure. The block has a crack in it as a result of the cv axle breaking and smacking it during the wreck. Motor still runs and doesnt knock but that crack sucks. The trans has about 30k miles on it and i believe he said it came from a saturn redline. My plan was to sell that stuff as i mainly wanted the blower setup. The car is already sold as a roller once i get the stuff i want out.
The power plant has been pulled from the cobalt ss and the car has been sold as a roller to another challenge member!
Hoping to get the kit and all components needed removed from the motor and get the swap done on the solstice sooner than later!
Cool. Watching your progress intently
