I really kinda like it- looking forward to seeing it in person!
Well the car has done fantastic this weekend. We finished 2nd overall int he autox for budget cars and we managed a 14.1 @ 104mph despite traction issues in the drags.
Onto concourse and hopefully we will do well!
Made it home. 2nd in auto x for GTU$ and 3rd in drgas for GTU$. Concours killed our shot at a podium. Still bummed we didnt do better, i thought we would.
Will be back next year to contend for an overall win...
Given how quickly this came together, you did great and should be proud! You just got it running what, 5 months ago? With a top autocross time, you should definitely be on podium if you can fix the traction issues and get into the 13's, and do lots and lots of bodywork. Concours is a multi-faceted judgment and right now your car is strong in the "engineering" portion. Your current position reminds me of Datsaniti's first year of competition. For reference that car was a good autocrosser and scored a 19 in a similar state of "technological marvel but heinously ugly", and that was 6 years ago when body swapping Challenge cars was still a pretty novel idea. So 2.5 more concours points would have only bumped you up one more place. For reference I finished 14th overall.
Then I spent more months than you have in this whole build just doing bodywork and paint, in order to bump that concours up to 2nd place, just barely enough for an overall win, and that was with a low 13s quarter (lots of nitrous). The Challenge is tough.
All this to say, I'm looking forward to seeing you next to me on podium next year when the Free Europa wins

Thanks. it makes sense as is not finished, but i figured a raw looks would still be considered a look. it will all be one color next year and look more refined. we also have plans for moving budget money around and getting lighter wheels and a radial under there. she WILL dominate...
I was on the googles looking for spitfire swap info and of course GRM content came up. I hadn't seen the backstory to this one before, but it's really cool!

I'm assuming, since this is GRM, that you are referring to the engine.

Just had a vision of a radial engine "laying" in a truck bed. Diff center pumpkin as a means to change direction of rotation? Transaxle to rear wheels.
So, thank you for the brain worm
Welllll, she is coming back this year and will look a little different. main concept is the same, just trying to polish this turd. I also want to mention, i would prefer to not take the car home with me....So for any and all who are interested, it will be for sale. I will create a for sale thread but prior to doing that if anyone is interested, just reach out directly and save me time from making a thread lol.
Ideally id like 4k. as a reminder, this car held the FTD in the autocross outperfroming near new porsche GT4s and other like vehicles and was only beaten by my arch nemesis Andy in his mr2 kart at the end of the day. Drag race wasnt ideal because of the wrong tires but thats changing this year. i suspect a mid to low 12 second pass. It will not come with the drag wheels and tires but will come on stock wheels with autocross slicks. it has a title but it is a salvage rebuildable title. ac and all that jazz actually works. i will bring all parts removed and some that we pulled that are no longer in the budget but the new owner will get all of it.
All we are doing to change it this year is cosmetic, and as of now will involve Vinyl and not paint so it should be reversible and a blank slate to do what you want.
