using the rusty car as a track rat type build too keep it in the family sounds like a great idea too me! Then again i get attached too vehicles.
I am a sucker for the "Been in the family forever and want to pass it down to the grand-kids" line.
That there would have had me holding the key in the right spot and building a car around it with no budget constraints.

We'll see what happens Saturday, i think the car is coming with front buckets. At that point I'll have 2 sets and use the best shells on the good car and put race seats in the crusty one so there would be extras.
I'm coming down Friday after work, staying somewhere just north of Charlotte on 77, then heading to get car Saturday morning.
I'm in North Carolina with my trailer, meeting up with dusterbd13 in morning and going to load up the new chevelle

short story: we(me and duster) went to the address where i was to meet the guy, so i could follow to his buddy's place. after a bit, the guy(henceforth "old guy") that owns the house shows up and says seller was living in a cottage on the lot and he kicked him out a couple days ago for dealing drugs. after 50 minutes of him not showing, i got an email and a text at the same time saying meet at walmart in 30 minutes. i reply what i'm driving and ask what he is driving so i can flag him down. no reply. 45 minutes i send one asking where he is. then old guy pulls up and starts talking. says if he doesn't show come across the street to his tire shop and we'll find him. well, hour and 45 minutes of waiting at walmart, my favorite berkeleying place on earth, many unanswered calls and texts including a final "if you are not following through with this let me know so i can go back to ohio" i file a claim with paypal to get my deposit back and we go across the street. old guy tells his mechanic what's up. mechanic says "i was over there yesterday, he HAD a chevelle, said he had a deposit on it but sold it to another person who offered more money." mechanic questioned his business skills and the seller said "so what's he going to do to me." well, 5 year ago me would have killed him and any witnesses. mechanic says "i know where he's at right now, i'll tell you and you can go." i'm not about to confront someone off my turf, unarmed, and go either to jail or home to my kids in a bodybag. dusterbd13 is pissed on my behalf during this, but for some reason through this entire process i was calm as can be.
i have a bill of sale and entire text conversation where he drops off the face of the earth with screenshots of the timestamps for paypal to see so i'm hoping they credit me back pretty darn quick.
the big issue is this guy was too big a Bob Costas to man up and tell me he sold it out from under me and refund my deposit. the dirtbag let me drive all the berkeleying way to north berkeleying carolina and strung me along all the way to the berkeleying wal berkeleying mart parking lot before he just quit communicating thinking he will keep my deposit. paypal doesn't take kindly to people berkeleying other people over who have as large a credit line as i do with them. as long as paypal makes it right, i'm out about $250 for hotel, fuel, food, and tolls plus 2 days i could have spent with my kids.
Wow that sucks and is yet another reason too not trust people. I probably would have confronted him and tryed to beat my money back out of him, im not near even tempered enough for that.
Maaan you just don't berkin do that E36 M3 to someone... But then again sounds like that dumb berk needed money to fund his drug habit...
I was reminded of the father i strive to be by pats response to the whole thing. So calm and composed. The example he wants his kids (who weren't even there!) To see.
I gotta work on my temper and attitude. Got a long way to go.

This really sucks Pat. I apologize on behalf of North Carolina that these shenanigans went down in my home state. This is not representative of who we are here, or who we strive to be.

I told old man, who was cool as heck by the way, that if he's that shady dealing with drugs, he'll get what's coming to him right quick and I didn't need to be the one to do it.
Highlight of the ordeal- when old man said he was 70 and introduced his 43 year old wife, then he may have said something about math, and while pulling away said he was trying to figure out how many times 70 goes into 43.
Also had dinner at a place called mac's speed shop Friday night and literally had the best onion rings I've ever had in my life.
However, I didn't drive 1100ish miles to hear a dirty old man joke and eat some onion rings.
Truck got around 20 mpg with the empty car trailer, cruise set at 75.

Speaking of trailer we need to deliver ice princess in the next couple days while it's warm, before i go south again. And I could use some help from your strong like bull son putting stampie's axles on my trailer if he would like in exchange for delivering his project car.

No problem with the lifting help; I can probably have him bring an extra gorilla along as well.
