In is better.  They'll both wear tires but out will make it darty and unstable.

Opinion time. Grill is berkeleyed.

PO's side. (and it gets worse in places....)

Mine

Hit the whole thing with a scotch Brite to "brush" it?

Install as is?

Get it sand blasted and clear coat/clear powder coat?

Can you do us a favor and tape it in place and get us an overall view of it in place so we can help you determine what finish would work best

Possibly this evening. I am kinda thinking either leave it as is, or brush the whole thing.

Yes. I would go one step further though, and get it powder coated a gunmetal/graphite color. I think the darker grille color will make the body color and roof pop.

I would leave it. It's a nice small project for future you to have fun with in a year or two if you still care at that point.

Agreed.

Still have enough bites of elephant to finish without making more.

Thanks Guys, I will prob install as is. I can deal with grill later (although it is a pain in the ass to get in and out!)

Front end is nut and bolted. I hate tapered ball joints.....

Cotter pins are in on all but one, which got safety wire.

I don't know about IH, but Ford anodized their aluminum grilles. That has to be stripped off before doing anything. There are products that will do it (I own a bottle of some magic crystals for that purpose).

I hope this is a before picture.  That pitman arm is loose on the box.

I did tighten that up, but I could only get on it with channel locks, it must be 1 3/8" or so. My box wrenches stop at 1 1/4"

Grill installed.

Drivers side doesnt fit great. But its in for now.

Trying to figure out rear shocks. Upper Mounts seem like they are in a super awkward spot.

Grill looks awesome as-is, and really lends a finished look to the truck. Damn I'm happy to see this coming together!

I can't see the shock mount though

Tranny is very grumpy. Hunting and not locking up it seems. If I shift it's OK once it's locked (or found the gear?)

Also leaving a good puddle of fluid....

engine oil or trans or both?!  How easily can you move those shock mounts back?  I agree, they look way too far forward.

In reply to golfduke :

Probably both, but the big puddle was definitely transmission. Refish tint for sure.

I might as well make new ones if I'm going to move them. I'm not sure how the factory setup was, but they do seem very far forward. I also don't have very much room for a shock however

That thing has a 4 speed auto? And lockup converter? Can't be a stock trans....

Three speed, it's a torque flight 727. I think it's probably not lock up. It's just like it's hunting for gears I guess?

Trans pan is dry....

I'm really. Hoping it's not input shaft seal.... I don't want to drop the trans. I put 3 more quarts in.

Engine oil almost looks like it's between the block and head?

If it was a small block Chevy I tell you to change your valve cover gaskets and look at the rear China Wall on your intake gasket
