Hey everyone, long time lurker finally documenting my work. This is my 1980 Toyota Corona I picked up last weekend. It has a 20r and a 5 speed. I got the car home...ie barracks parking lot. Went and bought a battery the next day and some fresh gas and she started right up, the motor seems really strong. Got the lights, clutch, and brakes working and I am in the process of getting it registered. It didnt have a title so I had to get the VIN verified and hopefully it will be registered tomorrow if I have time. So long story short this is a cool project Ive never seen one in person here in the south. I would love some feedback and ideas as far as what to do with it! I would like to autox it...but there is literally no aftermarket support for this car whatsoever. So any ideas....maybe just a cool daily? Also if anyone has any info about these cars it would be much appreciated. It was built in japan apparently but the internet doesnt know much about these cars...lol

There is an extreme concentration of grm kin in georgia.
Ill have to look into that I have only been here for a few months. We have an autoshop on base where you can work on your car so I will do most of my updates there.

True, but Ft. Stewart is the boonies.
Lots in Georgia though. Check out the Garage Zero guys as they have regular old school meets in Atlanta.
Might try getting in touch with someone based in Japan. They may be able to find some stuff over there that isn't available here. Also see if there are any old school parts houses that have microfis in your area. Makes it a lot easier to cross reference parts from other cars from Toyota that will work on yours. Even check with a Toyota dealer parts department as they sometimes have parts print outs you can get showing everything like the microfis.
I have a brother that lives in Sapporo ,non military, that will give me details of cars he's run across in a junkyard that's down the street from where he lives.
He's pretty busy with work but I've had him check on parts for other people if needed.
The good thing about these drivetrains is that all that stuff is still widely available and cheap. Body parts and interior is where you are going to run into difficulty.
Post some more pictures when you can!
Ok got the car to the pressure washer today and cleaned her up a bit. I took out the back half of the carpet to so hopefully it doesn't remain as a rolling ecosystem. Got some air in the tires and drove it around a good bit. This car desperately needs tires and all fluids changed so I wont be driving it for a bit. Im gonna keep ripping out the interior most of it is garbage anyways the passenger window has been out for 10 years so the interior has been open to the elements.

Im gonna be taking alot more pictures when I have time but I usually work 12hr days. I found some wheels I might get apparently these cars are a 4x114.3 lug pattern so I have some options.

Actually rockauto has a lot for these cars they actually sell the passenger side glass which I desperately need because the rain season is upon us. There is some other cars that have similar suspensions that I can pull from to....this thing needs to be lowered
These are really pretty cars in a retro-Japaneese way. They shared a lot of general body lines with American cars from the late 60's. Pretty cool.
4x114 gives you essentially infinite options of an old school Japanese wheels. Search for wheels for a Datsun 240Z and they will all work on yours.
yea its a goofy car but its rwd and 4 doors and a 5 speed what more can you ask for? Well technically its 2 doors the passenger side door dont open....one more thing to fix
