Oh the humanity... Poor beetles need love too... Oh, and more updates needed

The truck needs a new windshield. Since I didn't have any good ones, I had to buy one...and the car it was connected to.

Ooh, and an Early West grill. Actually, what are your plans for the front end of the truck?

The plan is to put an early Westy front on it. I had most of the parts already, and with this latest acquisition I should have all the parts I need.

It's spring and the snow has melted. I'd start working on the truck again...but I've been distracted.

An OBD1 ABA.

Cleaning parts the easy way.

A resurfaced head, fresh from the machine shop.

ARP head studs. Must be a race car?

Adjustable cam gear, 10mm wires. Definitely a race car...?

Sacrificed 2 brand new oil pumps to make one that will fit.

Oil pan and motor mount brackets for a 50 degree install...to lower the center of gravity for a race car?

Now to pull the old lump out and install the new engine. Okay so it's not exactly a race car.

I should have it bolted together and hopefully running by the end of the month. Then I can get back to work on the Rabbit Truck.

Well it does have H&R springs, Koni adjustable shocks, and 16" wheels. Leaving the stove and refrigerator in though, so I can make dinner in between heats.

Just do it like on a boat, and have a bungee cord to keep the stove door shut when it leans.

Still distracted by the Westy, but getting closer...the goal is to get it done in time for a camping trip mid-June.

I needed to come up with a solution for the throttle cable, since the kick-down switch is in the transmission. There's a cable from the pedal to the transmission, then one from the transmission to the throttle body. So it was time to start working in CAD.

And the finished product transferred from CAD to AutoCAD to CNC plasma cutter. It uses the throttle cable from a '99 New Beetle 2.0 and a throttle cable retainer from a '70s GM. The kick-down spring in the cable doesn't exactly match the kick-down in the transmission, so kick-down engages just slightly before full throttle.
