Hello everyone! I'm G _ Body _ Man. I'm a 15-year-old car nut hailing from southwestern Ontario (Canada). I have been reading the mag for some time now, and I just picked up my first car - A 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham Sedan. It's not in too bad shape. I have to fix some sheet-metal corrosion, but otherwise it's golden. It's got a 305 Chevy V8 making all of 150 Horses (some 5 less than a brand-new base-model Mazda 3), and a 200-4R Trans. Here I will be chronicling my misadventures with this car. Enjoy!
Welcome to GRM! Good to see someone on the younger side interested in cars, especially an 80's G-Body.

Thanks!
noice!
It is not too difficult to swap in a saginaw 4 speed and 350 into this beast.
There is lots of info here about how to make these handle.
Good Luck!

Thanks! I'm planning on putting in a 350 when I have the space, money, and resources to do so.
That shift indicator only shows 3 gears. You may have a th200 or th350 instead. (or was there a trans swap?)
In reply to Gearheadotaku:
My dad took it up to 75 MPH and I swear I counted three shifts, so that's why I think I have a 200-4R
A 200R4 should have an O/D next to the D. But I could be wrong. What does the pan look like? There are some pics on the thread about the Olds wagon to compare with.
In reply to Gearheadotaku:
No idea what the pan looks like. I thought the 305 only came with the 200-4R. Maybe I am mistaken.

Dat velour tho. Excellent car.
In reply to mndsm:
Thank you! Believe it or not I'm only the third owner of the car. The previous owner had it for 27 years.
The "third shift" may have been the torque converter lockup. A 200-4R would have the OD in the shift pattern.
In reply to 81cpcamaro:
Now that I think about it, you're right. It did feel different than a normal shift. I guess I got a three speed.
That's probably a TH-350 with lockup. Your third shift was the converter locking.
Handy Chart, I think thye stopped using them before 84, but if it looks like 200-4R without the triangle bit on the end and METRIC stamped into the pan it's a TH200, dreadful little thing, if its a plain 200, budget to replace it soon.

I haven't seen a 4 door G-body that nice in years, Great score!
In reply to 06HHR:
Trust me, it's a lot uglier close up. I'm in the process of patching some rust spots. It's the only car I have ever seen that has rusted from the outside in.
In reply to Kenny_McCormic:
I think I probably have the TH350, then.
Welcome to the forum. I still have the car I got when I was 14. 20 years later.
Just remember to keep first things first. Safe, reliable and cool. In that order. That order has served me well over the years.
Also, when you're ready, us old guys on the forum will be more than happy to help you make it faster around the turns.
Lastly: you and dad need to do a street survival school. Best thing mine ever did for my driving.
In reply to Dusterbd13:
Thanks. Unfortunately we don't have a street survival program here in Canada.
Gotta be one Just across the border. Granted I know absolutely jack about Canadian geography.
Any autocross in your area when you're not buried under snow?

This...although if you run across them some Olds Rallys would increase the cool factor by 1000% for not much cash. My old Bonneville was a 60k mile 2 owner car when I got it. And I knew the second owner that had it since 30k. Same drivetrain as yours after I swapped a TH350 for the dead TH200R4. Only other mod was swapping the hubcaps for Pontiac Rally IIs. I still miss it a little.
G-bodys rule! Especially brown ones
In reply to Junkyard_Dog:
I'm thinking of picking up some trans-am wheels for it.
Yeah, this thing is gonna be sweet.
Watch the offsets! IIRC some T/A wheels on 3rd gens were different offsets front and rear . I had to run four fronts from an 80s Z/28 on my S-10, which basically has a G-body front end.
